You are 61 and I'm 67 you're trying to operate with standards that are obsolete. You must abandon the paradigm of being discovered unless you can go the American idol route. If you can't or are unwilling then give it up. Face it our 15 minutes is over. No matter how many reviews or listens they are not the result of the opinions that matter.

Like I've said many times I have NO delusions of grandeur.wagtunes wrote: Mon Jul 22, 2019 9:16 pm I am curious about one thing. All you guys ragging on me and busting my balls, going back to my first post, where's YOUR success? So you're all killing it in this industry?
Yeah, that's what I thought.

Okay, true story.
For our church, we hired a song and dance man. After his performance, we talked. Found out that he was looking for music for a play he was working on. I told him I write music. He said "Great!" He gave me his contact info and I wrote to him immediately.
He never got back to me. This was like a year ago.
I've been told by members of the church who know him that he has "problems."
Point is, this has been the story of my life. I can't even begin to count the number of people who "promised" to do something with me and ended up either backing out or just plain disappearing.
I should write a song called "Promises Broken"

Leave this fool to lie to himself about his future in music. Instead of being satisfied with being a big fish in a miniscule pond he must continue to kid himself that there's not a river called denial.

But, as has already been said, you've been given constructive criticism even by those you believe to be your enemies, but you are incapable of realising it.

Jacqueslacouth does fit your wish. So ...wagtunes wrote: Thu Jul 18, 2019 4:08 pmI'm looking to hear from people actually in the business who have had success in the business. Opinions of those sitting in their basements doing home recordings who have never made 5 cents in this business aren't welcome. I'm sorry but I can't be chasing after a whole lot of "suggestions" that have no basis in actual fact. If you haven't had success in this business then you can't possibly tell me how I can succeed.

Doing fine. Though we weren't asking for advice - that was you. And you were the one who chose to ignore the advice. I gave some pretty hot tips early on in the thread on how to get your music heard.wagtunes wrote: Mon Jul 22, 2019 9:16 pm I am curious about one thing. All you guys ragging on me and busting my balls, going back to my first post, where's YOUR success? So you're all killing it in this industry?
Yeah, that's what I thought.
But I think you've highlighted a major issue here. You're aiming for the top - making comparisons to people who already made it when you need to compare yourself to those who are only just starting.
In other words: Give yourself a break - don't wait for someone else to do it because that won't ever happen.
Also, you're making it all bigger than it is. It's not impossible to do what you want to achieve. But it's hard enough when you're not talking yourself into quitting all the time. And indeed, with such an attitude, you won't make it. You have succeeded in having a sense of control by stifling yourself.
"Keep pure your highest ideal; strive ever toward it without allowing aught to stop you or turn you aside, even as a star sweeps upon its incalculable and infinite course of glory, and all is Love. The Law of your being becomes Light, Life, Love and Liberty. All is peace, all is harmony and beauty, all is joy." ~ Aleister Crowley.
I would address whatever depression is holding you back and you might start to notice some progress. It's got to start with baby steps though. Enjoying what you are doing right now for the sake of it whilst taking the appropriate steps to include more people in your sphere.
The people "busting your balls" are trying to get you to understand some very simple core concepts. They don't just apply to the music industry but some great life advice in general has already been given in this thread.
Why do you fight those who try to help? That's a rhetorical question you need to answer for yourself because we have all realised you are beyond help until you take a step back and see how you are behaving. A little self-awareness would really help you here - we've all gone above and beyond.
Really, there is no need or reason for the levels of anxiety that you are bringing to this discussion. It's as though being helped makes you angry - and that attracts the very people you don't want - those drawn to a spectacle.

well i can only offer advice, what he does with it is on him.thecontrolcentre wrote: Mon Jul 22, 2019 8:46 pmI'm sure we've been here before, when wags was looking for a singer. We suggested local churches, schools, colleges, etc, but he made excuses as always.vurt wrote: Mon Jul 22, 2019 8:42 pmbroadway style but more "local"
amateur dramatics type thing.
work the sound or lights or as a stage hand at something, even do a bit part.
often they look for songs to add to a play, its a way to get something done, ok not a recording, but its then "published" live![]()

Thus rendering us your peers. You know how the academic world works? Peer review. You know the best form of assessment? Peer assessment.wagtunes wrote: Mon Jul 22, 2019 9:16 pm I am curious about one thing. All you guys ragging on me and busting my balls, going back to my first post, where's YOUR success? I'm sorry to say this Wags, but you think you are entitled to ride on the shoulders of giants when you arrogantly reject a boost up from those on your level.

When you define yourself as someone who is seeking a place on the Billboard 100 you place yourself on another level. If you have been less than successful at achieving your stated goal who is to blame? You set the standards. There are many levels to achieve before the countdown. Many have sold mix tapes out the trunk of their car or left copies of their latest work at record stores to be given away for free. In Boston Newbury Comics has cd's at the door for free by artists promoting their latest work. Have you promoted yourself in ANY way? If not shut the front door.

My last piece of advice and I'm out of this one...
Since you don't have any interest in advice given to you by us mere plebs on KVR, perhaps you should try....oh, I don't know....GOOGLE????
There are literally thousands of results when you search songwriting and whatever other parameters you need to add. Many of the first results will give documented evidence through quotes from those who have achieved the success in the industry that you refer to.
