What kind of shenanigans is this?
Apple has always installed software in several places since the beginning. I had to constantly police my Preferences and Extensions folders in OS 9 and earlier.

You'll find things installed in Applications, ~/ , ~/Library/..., ~/Documents, Users/Shared/..., Library, Library/Audio/..., Library/Application Support/..., and a few other places. It depends on the developer's style, needs, and Apple's very vague sense of what's proper.

One thing I do agree with is that Mac installers should include an Uninstall script if there's more than a single file/folder that needs to be trashed.

But, this is a small price to pay for using the world's best operating system and hardware combo. 8)
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better? :(

On pc you can install the product whereever you want.
If you are on Mac and if you think you can't live with plugin-data placed in Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/ don't buy the product. The location on mac will not be changed as this would break downward compatibility with previous versions and soundsets.
I will not further disuss on this topic as it has been answered for many times in the past.
Either deal with it or don't buy it.
dude, 3 folders get installed in "/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins", right beside the root folder of VST, VST3, etc. this is lazy ass programming, and compiled with your attitude, instadelete.

dude, fact is that we provided free updates for this product for a decade.
Fact is also that the synth works reliable and we do not get complains about it from our paying customers.

Can you save patches in the beta? Away at moment so going to be a while before I can check so thought I would ask.

I have v2.4 so be good to evaluate V3 before release so I can make an informed decision if it is a paid update.

Asking as It bugs me sometimes in demos/betas when you make a great patch but then it is gone unless you record/photograph the settings.

If I remember correctly you only can save patches in the demo of Saurus

OK no problem, thanks for letting me know 👍

I have Nemesis 2 installed. If I install the public beta of Nemesis 3 will it affect my Nemesis 2 projects or run as a separate VST? I don't want to overwrite anything important!

Post

I finally purchased this - love the sound of all the Tone2 synths but haven't needed anything new, (but really, don't "need" anything, so...)

I'm a little confused about installing the Nemesis 3 Beta - for VST 3 (I believe) you can only install this or 2.4, since only the latest version will be recognized by your DAW (with VST2 this is not an issue). Since it appears the Nemesis 3 Beta is only a demo version and patches can't be saved, that would preclude running the beta in most cases.

Will there be a a production beta at some point?

Not sure if this applies to all - I'm running Live on Windows. But if I'm not mistaken that's a function of VST3 standards - which is good in a way, since it preserves the plug-in naming between versions for project integrity, etc., but bad in cases like this where you might want to swap between versions or even compare in the same project.

Hi Markus.

A couple of people had either asked if this new update would be paid or free, or suggested that they didn't know which one it would be. But I didn't see any response to those posts confirming it for them (admittedly you got sidetracked dealing with criticisms!). The above quote still feels a little ambiguous as to whether or not the next update is still going to continue the free trend or not. Is it?

Edit: thanks rodanmusic.

Says 2.4 is free and 3 is a paid upgrade (unless you bought directly from Tone2 after May 2023):

If you are on PC you can install the beta (Demo) to a directory that is not known to the DAW like C:\NemesisBeta.
Otherwise I'd recommend to wait for the release version.

OK thanks I'll wait until the full release. I'm on 2.4 at the moment.

Hi Markus, respectfully - I am a paying customer (Electra & Rayblaster) and hate the way your plugins ignore industry standards and install those extra folders on Mac. This is a legitimate concern.

I noted that some Mac users on kvr dislike the location.

Just because we do things differently than others does not mean that we do it wrong.
As I already answered before that it will not be changed as there are 0 technical issues with it. The opposite is even true:

1) Unlike the locations that competing companies (which will not be mentioned) had selected in the past, we did not have any compatbility issues with the placement of our files since a decade. The issues that competing companies had, did appear after various MacOS updates. We did not have to fix stuff with symlinks because our plugins did not longer work properly after a mac os upgrade.

2) Our location always did work properly. I do not see a urgent need to change a working system and seriously mess things up for hundrets of users. We need to keep downward compatibility with previous versions, installers and soundsets

3) The product works very reliable

4) Kvr is not representative for the demands of our paying customers.
We did not get such change requests by email for a decade.
This does mean that those people who actually fund our company and buy the products (mostly music producers) either don't care about it or are fine with how-it-is. They care about relieable products, sound quality, well-designed interfaces and low CPU demand.

I kindly ask to stop stressing as I am in hospital and must recover. Life is too short for this
