Could you (or someone) tell me how to adjust the range of the pitch bend wheel on the interface? Is it (only) the oscillator pitch parameter in the mod matrix or is there another place?

Thanks!
Marcus could give you the specifics, but when Baastian was there, he told me you had to program pitch bend parameters based upon a ratio (of sorts). I don't remember exactly, because I never bothered to try it (math wasn't my best subject in school, and frankly, it seemed a bit cumbersome for such a basic synth feature).

The manual for Saurus 3 is on-line within the synth, if you want to check it for the steps necessary to program the pitch-bend.

Hope that helps.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the reply.

I did check the manual; I may have missed it, but I didn't see it (as a global or default setting). However, using "osc pitch" as the target in the matrix does work per patch. I had to just play with it to change the range from two semitones to 4 semitones (which is fine).

I wonder, since you mentioned him, how Baastian is. He is a really nice guy and was very helpful. I hope that he is well.
You can use two matrix slots, each set to 100 for Osc Fine (2 semitones) and it will be a cumulative pitch bend amount of 4 semis. (2+2 semitones)

Or use 100 in the first one and 50 for the 2nd slot makes it 3 semitones, etc.

Everyone? Isn't it just two guys?

Thanks for the note; good to know!

I think for what I'm trying to accomplish the "osc pitch" parameter might be a bit more direct (and I was probably not precise enough in my description: forgive me for that. I'm want 4 semitones up and 4 semitones down). I need this to compensate for my WX5's pitch bend at the reed: it only bends about half of whatever the synth is set at. I could adjust it at the hardware end, by it tends to affect vibrato badly. So, I generally adjust the synth's pitch bend range and all is good.

Saurus has always had a very strong tone character and I do tend to use it for leads (which, of course, is what I use the WX5 for) and basses. It's really good for cutting through and keeping the mud down.

When you init a new patch the default pitchwheel range is set to +-1 octave.
The pitchwheel in Saurus is assigned in the matrix. You can assign it to any target.

Pitchwheel to +-1 octave (=12 semitones):

Matrix source: Pitchwh.
Matrix target: Osc Pitch
Send level: +25

Pitchwheel to +-4 semitones:

Matrix source: Pitchwh.
Matrix target: Osc Pitch
Send level: +8

Pitchwheel to +-2 octaves:

Matrix source: Pitchwh.
Matrix target: Osc Pitch
Send level: +50

Pitchwheel to +-4 octaves:

Matrix source: Pitchwh.
Matrix target: Osc Pitch
Send level: +100

Pitchwheel to +-1 semitone:

Matrix source: Pitchwh.
Matrix target: Osc Fine
Send level: +100

I just wanted to add that the Analog init uses Osc Fine at 100 (+/- 2 semitones) and the Digital init is set to Osc Pitch at 25 (+/- 12 semitones). You can always change those settings however you want afterward, or make your own Init presets.

Been playing around a lot with this. The random is very cool and I've edited random patches to make some cool stuff, I think the mod matrix entries for the random patches seem slightly limited.

I don't think this would ever happen and would probably be a nightmare to implement, but in my dream world the parameter ranges and mod matrix entries would be somehow user definable, like in a txt file or something. But I'm guessing implementing randomness requires a lot of c++ control statements so things don't blow up or make no sound, rather than simply defining a random range for each parameter.

Wouldn't it be much better to have a simple paramater for setting the mod wheel range, in semi tones from -24 to +24 or something?

Frankly, that's what I always noticed on the Tone2 synths. Some things are implemented in a very confusing way. Same with the stereo width for unison. I think there's no Tone2 synth which lets you adjust both spread and unison voice position in the stereo field.

At kvr market it's 59$.
But probably it will go NFR.

Thanks, Marcus, and all who commented.

I did find the routing of pitchwheel to osc pitch. It is most advantageous when using a WX5 where the reed controls the pitch the same way a pitchwheel does on a keyboard. I've edited the pitchwheel in a few of the stock patches and rerouted CC02 (breath control) to control the filter, drive, and resonance. When I tweak or program synth-style patches for wind synthesis, perhaps oddly, I rarely map CC02 to volume. FWIW.

Impressive demo - top notch sounds as usual with Tone2. So I bought the full version.
Thanks Markus!

Just tried it few minutes ago.
It sounds greater than ever.

Good job on it, guys. Keep rockin'

Was just plaing with the random patch generator. While they're not as useful to me compared to the ones I get from Warlock, Saurus did give me a really wicked Tom Sawyer!
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better? :(

Thank you for the music, I guess I should test out Saurus 3. Seems an inspiring instrument…
Though I don‘t buy synths that do not support MPE anymore…
How does it compare to Icarus which does support MPE?
