I have a hunch they just looked for a quick way to possibly appease disgruntled customers and get more people to upgrade (in my case they're still unsuccessful btw) - I don't think that when V6 came out this was already in their plans. I also assume that it's based on the TERC code.

Edit: don't get me wrong though - TERC is an excellent chorus and if it's indeed based on that code that's a good thing for sure.
That's my suspicion too.

I think T-Racks bread and butter is analog emulations. But some of them are quite old. I think they could've done some "MK II" versions of their plugins (Black76, White2A, Fairchild) and that would've been more appealing. Or use some ML Learning to recreate EQ/Preamp hardware like a new 1073 or API EQ set. Those may been enticing. Instead I think they strayed too far away from emulations of classic gear and I think people just weren't feeling it, hence the lack of upgrade interest.

Just my two cents.

For me it's honestly just the fact that they completely devaluated all the stuff I already own - it's not the price per se - it's just that they themselves all of a sudden valued every single plugin I own at 1€ (because 50€ is the discount they gave me for the 50 plugins I own) - and now it's even less - now it doesn't even matter at all anymore whether I own 1 or 50 plugins.

So one dollar is what I am willing to pay them for any future plugins - heck, I'll even round it up to a tenner to purchase the nine new ones - that's my kind of generosity as a loyal customer.

Someone on the prior page said they downloaded T-Racks 6 Intro and that got them upgraded versions of all their T-Racks modules. Has anyone else confirmed? That's basically similar to what IK did in prior major releases, but that they had changed with TR6 (which was another reason not to upgrade). So if they shifted back on that policy, that would be nice at least.

They must have done some tweak to the 1073 cause the CPU and latency is increased a bit compared to v5 can’t really hear a difference though.

A lot of them are exactly the same, a few have increased CPU.

They did fix a LONG standing GUI bug. (on my system anyway) Massive slowdown when using some of their IR based plugs like Mic Room on an iMac in Logic.

The new filter plug is a CPU hog. I agree they’re better with the bread and butter analog emulation stuff.

I've also checked Modules Manager in the TR6 plugin and my 43 TR5 licenses all show as owned after installing Intro.

If I have 48 T-Racks modules, would they all show up as owned? Or is Intro a cut down set? I'm not even sure what Intro is to be honest. Is it what IK used to call the "CS" version?

Post

Intro is 3x free TR6 plugins...but after installing it my 43x TR5 plugs work as TR6 owned versions.

Thanks for confirming. Much appreciated.

Sounds like IK indeed backtracked on their "you must pay to upgrade to get your existing modules as TR6 versions". So that's a good thing at least. Policies like that leave a bad taste in my mouth, which just decrease my likelihood of ever updating. But if they've rectified that, I won't hold it against them.

For me it's the opposite. When TR6 launched I installed the plugins I bought separately during the big group buy a couple of years ago turned up as working. At the group buy I also bought TR5 SE and TR5 to get more plugins in bulk, these plugin was locked and didn't work as version 6 plugins.
Having some working and some not didn't make sense so I erased everything TR6.

This thread made me curious to see if things had changed to the better but lo and behold! Now only one of my TR5 plugins show up as owned so for me it's even worse than at the initial launch!

Post

How very odd.

When I installed TR6 Intro previously the TR5 plugins weren't 'updated'. The only thing I may have done between now and then was to update IK Product Manager. I re-download the new version of TR6 Intro which added Triad Chorus to the Max set.

Maybe Peter can jump in and confirm what's supposed to happen one way or the other.

I just tried TR6 Intro, and...nope!

FWIW, I effectively have TR5 Max. I started with "Deluxe" and added from there.

Hope this saves someone else the trouble. As a reminder, TR6 is VST3/AAX only. The download size is 2.5GB and 4GB installed.

I also have a bunch of group buy singles that are not available after installing 6 intro.

I've installed TR6 Intro on my MacBook and that has not recognised my TR5 licenses. So it seems that something has caused my TR5 licences to be recognised as TR6 on my Mac desktop, but that is not the norm. Go figure.

Better not update then. :-P
