I think you could do BOTH types of previews.
There could be a section of longer previews of a few tracks, then a simple short preview of each track in the track listing.
I'm not a marketing guy - but I think the friends and family that I will market to will want to hear at least a snippet of what my track sounds like, even if my track isn't in the short set of longer previews.
I think this is what might drive sales in the volumes we are talking - around 500 for the first pressing right?
I'm hoping I can drive realisticaly 10 sales or so at the minimum. If each of us that have a track on the CD do that (I know some of you have already done that in pre-orders), the we are at the 400 mark (above and beyond the pre-orders) and have hit the 500 mark.
But I think it will be easier for me to hit a 10 sales mark for each artist with at least a short preview of each track. "Hey, my friend/son/nephew Scott has this song on this CD that will help Red Cross / Habitat for Humanity if you buy it. Here's a link to the website and another link to a snippet of his song", etc.
I'm all for a longer preview of a few tracks, but why not have a way for each track to be previewed? It's the web, we can do both, without additional cost, correct?

I was contacted through the email that is the one I used when I ordered the cds...that is not the same as my email here (it was, but Ben suddenly had troubles with it), however it is important to note (I won Camel phat) that because I had never dealt with Camel before (I will in the future) that the email went to my junk folder, so be careful deleting junk mail as this thread is tough to keep up with...rockstar_not wrote:Didn't win here and my PM box shows 0 messages, so I'm guessing I haven't won yet....xander wrote:FRAK!!!

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Uhmmm... well, since xRAVENx volunteered his time to mix these for us, we'll just go with one option for the moment and see what's what.rockstar_not wrote:I think you could do BOTH types of previews...
We really need to focus on something that can be used for airplay now and in adverts -- later we can stream a longer preview from the artists' website. yeah?
Anyway, off to bed with tired me & catch you all in the morning.
Cheers,
Alex

best to pick the ten most sellable pieces to be honest
kvr people all know what we all sound like, our friends and family can easily hear our own track and if the idea is to market this beyond kvr then to pick the most obvious money spinners is the nest idea.
i dont think my track would encourage many people who dont already like my stuf to buy a copy,so guess what im saying is keep the previews to the more commercial tracks, increase sales.
otherwse somepeople may get bored anyway previewing 40 or so tracks when out of that 40 thy like 4

Here's that chrysalid preview, excerpts of 10 tracks in it that roughly work together.
Another note, if you really do want a preview of every single track, we'll need to wait until Frank is done with the mastering, then I'll compile the previews from the masters. I just don't have the time to quickly master 40 tracks, but the mp3 previews really oughta be based on mastered material.
best

edit: braindead spelling, sowwy.

ATTENTION: MANYTONE AND KRIMINAL
I've finished mastering your track...it's currently uploading to the "Mastered Tracks" folder at the FTP please give it a listen if you get a chance and let me know what i think. The production on it was top notch, so it was a very simple song to master...thanx for making this whole thing a bit easier on me. ; ) Just added a small amount of compression to give it some more...uhh..."pump"...and a light amount of EQ on the top end to open up the "air" on the track. Finished it off with just enough widening in the stereo field and maximized it with the L3 multimaximizer.
Leave any comments/feedback please.
peace!

141 pre-orders x what was it, $18 per sale cleared to go to charity = $2538
That's something to be proud to be part of - let's hope it doesn't stop there.
To all of you that have spent so much time on this project, ..xander, freeztar, kovacs, mn, ToTc, et. al - thank you for the opportunity to help out in this way. Being able to participate in this project to benefit these folks feels much more 'connected' than just sending off a $25 check somewhere.
I don't know about the rest of you, but this process has really inspired me to seek out this kind of effort in the future when I may be able to help; because these hurricanes are not the only problems in the world. I still am haunted by Africa.
