Really really funny ... All the big companies makes fire to hype their product with flash banners, adv with tons of technical specs about how close their emulation is... pages about their true component modelling and so on... and one day... you find this synth... which simply kick a@@.

I'm a big fan of hardware, and usually I use vst only to do something not covered by hardware. But this... well... I' don't know how... but it's one of the best emulation. It sounds a bit "closed" but using an exciter (bbe maximizer for example), mix really well with other hardware.

A big thanks. Waiting for the X version... and what about a Roland D50 emu?

Actually, 8-voice polyphonic but 9-times polytimbral. You can assign individual programs to each of the 8 defined sequencer tracks *plus* the keyboard "track" (OS-wise the keyboard is track 0).

Me too. They unceremoniously killed the Ensoniq brand, but I wouldn't be surprised if they suddenly "remember" how very important it is to them. Have you guys found a way around this? At any rate, I will gladly shell out for the full version...this is fantastic work, and the developer should be rewarded for it. I've been hoping for something like this for a long time...a portable SQ-80 in my laptop!

tomg, thanks for converting all those banks. I have them all on floppy disks of course...incredible to be hearing those sounds coming out of the computer. And thanks for pointing out the right-click...I didn't realize it was already programmable.

As for the "hidden" waveforms...I actually bought those patches from soundengine years ago...some of them are terrific. I have to try to get around to converting them and see if they work...though I'll have to do a MIDI dump. Anyway, if Rainier hacked the OS, I'm sure the patches will work.

It's surprising how easy to repatch is this Ensoniq machine... I always heard Ensoniq made very interesting and strange synths, and as time goes by, I can certify that they're more interesting than strange.

I keep that very email of Bert Neikirk of Emu-Ensoniq close to my chest where he told me that they just don't care about that old stuff anymore.

Of course I asked Emu-Ensoniq whether they object me posting certain stuff -- especially the ROM dumps -- on my website.

Apart from that, I doubt that the ESQ1/SQ80 sample set can be copyrighted like e.g. Roland's MT32 library. It's not like they are are carefully crafted sample library but rather a mere collection of single-cycle waves plus some very few multi-cycle ones.

Well, that's good news...if they let you make the ROM dumps public, they could hardly object to this.

Is Siegfried planning to hang out a shingle and sell the finished product as a download? Honestly, I am really looking forward to this.

For this I'd even shove out some bucks for a Box or at least a DVD-Cover/CD release. Just to have somethng to pimp from the bookshelves.

Funny that you mentioned this. I had just put my D550 away in the cupboard because I only have space for a few well chosen rack mount synths (mainly real analogs) and faced with the choice of the ESQm and the D550 the Ensoniq won. Now I can put it away thanks to this VSTi and brush off the dust of the D550.

Roland is not as understanding as Ensoniq-Emu about using their old code. And they have provided a D50 emulation card for their V-Synth (although the expansion card cost more than a secondhand D550!!!). A D50 emulation would be fairly simple to do, but without the original ROM it will not be the same.

What about creating a Poly-800 emulation (with it's special single filter design), a CZ5000 (I still haven't seen a full, sysex compatible emulation of this) and a TR-505 emulator too (plus the 4-track emulation already requested) and I would have my original late 80s studio back in virtual world.

Once again many thanks for providing this software to the world. Maybe Emu would be interested in distributing the commercial version?

Well... looks like they're not acting like big asscakes anymore either. Else some "new emulation" would be taken down at once, or ton of the free emulations (Juno... er... yeah) already out there.

There's a Poly-800 emu out there, I heard rumors that a "proper" CZ emulation it's on it's way (along with the stuff that's already out) and I guess the people are more focused on TR808 and TR909 emulations rather than TR505 - especially since the samples float around for free on the net.

Nothing against E-MU, I'm using hardware from them myself, but they'd charge twice if not three times as much for this and let it simply die out after a while rather than really distributing it. Not to mention that E-MU and Ensoniq have pretty much "nothing" to do with each other anymore. And a couple of posts earlier, there was already a mention that Ensoniq gives a frack.

A wonder that E-MU revived the Proteus series, though not with the same names in software form anymore (I have to buy 3 upgrade sets to get my XL-1 as software!).

Well I personally don't understand or see any validity in referring to any CZ emulation that DOESN'T include the 8 stage envelopes throughout! This is a VITAL apsect to the whole CZ line. This ADSR stuff is fun, but not CZ emu - a phase distortion synth maybe, but not a CZ series emulation.
