Magix drop Samplitude dongle...

I don't understand all the whining. It seems it is based on the wrong assumption, that Magix has to few customers.
But if that would be the case, and Samplitude should attract much more customers, then they simply could lower the prices. But they do not, instead they prefer an even stronger market segmentation.

I see the Sam DLV much more as a test balloon with an downstripped version: how much is the loss/win, if we protect our software not with a dongle.

FWIW, I don't think Reaper is in the same league yet as Samplitude. MS, yes. But not Samplitude. Of course, it's much CHEAPER, but as you said, it could change. Maybe not. Who knows.

Don't get me wrong. Reaper is quite capable - I recorded my entire last cd on it and even stopped using Sonar because of the simple workflow and all-around good vibe and faith in the devs.

But damn...I downloaded the Samplitude demo a week ago and at first I had that "deer in headlights" feeling I get now when I open Sonar after getting used to Reaper.

But once I got acclimated and figured out a few things, everything fell into place and now I already can't go back. (the Midi side also has some brilliant functions I now don't want to work without) I'll save up for a Samp crossgrade by the time this demo is up.

It's the bomb.

I refuse to try samp simply because in it's current configuration (the pro version in my example) I know I'd bust out the credit card TODAY!

But I have to keep what I have, so it's cubase for now.......and that is not a bad thing.

As far as the download, there are allot of products that do not meet the needs of people that are too expensive, so I just consider this another one (tdv) that would be too expensive to meet my expectations.

I think perhaps the 99E pricepoint brings it too close to MS, which will just cause more confusion.

That is exactly the problem Greg. MS14 and SDLV are way too similar (if you remove Vari and VE). So IMO one must go. I would drop MS14.

And IMO MS is already a more direct 'competitor' to Reaper anyways in the less-expensive end of the market.

We have to disagree there. I really think with no VST, VSti or track limits and...Multicore support in Reaper...it's no contest. But that's how I see it.

Maybe DLV is a 'placeholder' while MS15 is in the works, I don't know. Just a supposition on my part.

Doubt it. I think Magix for some reason are not aware how bizarre their Product placement or structure currently is. They seem to think nothing of having so many versions that are so similar but are separated by huge prices.

MS14 and SDLV...MS14, Samp9 SE and Music Maker/Magix Music Maker Producer/ Magix Music Maker Producer XXL...

I think one of the reasons for Reapers and Abletons success is Product focus or a far more simplified product structure. They do not have 6+ versions of their product. 2 or 3 OK but at the bottom of the Magix product structure it's a maze. It's like spaghetti.

I remember years ago desparately trying to work out what the difference was between Music Studio and Music Maker. I eventually gave up buying either product. It really does not need to be so hard and these days with so many better choices, Magix will lose more customers with so much overlap with their products...especially at the low end.

Maybe with so many high profile users of Seq and Samp Pro, Magix feel that we just don't 'get' Samplitude the brand. Maybe with so many people interested in Samp on KVR, Magix might be the one's who don't get the current host market (low to mid).

Products like Reaper and Logic Studio/ Express with their low prices in 12 months have practically erased the line between Major hosts and starter or home studio packages.

Track,VST and VSTi limits and high prices are a sign of an out of date business model.

Such slip ups get eaten for breakfast on KVR.

The game has seriously changed. If Koblo studio over the next 12 - 18 months really gathers momentum, Reapers surge to popularity might seem like a walk in the park. Imagine trying to compete with a 100% free fully featured host?

Logic *9* might even be cheaper than Logic *8*. It's funny how music prices or worth appears to have fallen and now Music software as well. There might not be more than 5 years left in the lower end or mid market for serious ROI.

Lets see.

So to summarise the first 16 pages of the thread succinctly:

The technical people at Magix are just awesome, both in terms of the quality of coding and support given ...

... but the top people running the company and making the business and marketing decisions have pretty much totally lost the plot.

I doubt Magix will dump MS anytime soon. In fact they are working on MS15.
They MAY readjust focus/features/cost, etc. at some point, I don't know.
Anyone who could track my threads on their forum going back many years will see that I too have complained about the product options. You think MS-through Sequoia is confusing - try deciphering the different versions of Movie Edit Pro, which is similar to Video Deluxe in Europe, but hey there are different VERSIONS of each depending on US vs. Europe markets (PAL/NTSC, whatever), and it's just crazy. Although with the latest MEP14plus and Video Deluxe, they are getting tighter.

So, here's my summary for DLV.

• Samplitude is awesome, it would be nice if everyone in the 'mid' market could get it at similar price-point as so-called competitors that may or may not exactly match feature/performance, etc.
  Turn on favorable features, and turn off redundant ones, and/or get rid of extra plugs that can otherwise be purchased separately anyways.
  Get rid of dongles and cracks.
  Focus product line to make it more decipherable across all markets (and perhaps help with improved company development focus as well).
  Better present the unique features included in the program that are distinct from everything else on the planet (besides audio engine and objects).
  Keep the awesome developments, community, and tech. support coming, and drop the ill-perceived 'snobbiness' towards the 'mid' market.

That's all I got for now.

In the meantime, there is MS for cheap.
There are also cross-grade deals that may more closely bring things in-line for some people considering coming over from other hosts (or supplementing their arsenal).

What other hosts have the slicing style "Audio quantize" That can be applied to live drum tracks other then samplitude & Protools? This is one feature that has my attention. Time stretched based tools like in Live/Sonar don't work well for this.

Now i see "AudioSnap™ multitrack audio quantize" is a Producer Edition feature. Are the multitrack capabilities not in the Studio Edition?

Suggested retail price is over $600, but you can buy it for $500 at pretty much anywhere online. I've seen it for less. Plus, it's not crippled in ANY way and just as full featured as any host out there(of course considering that every host, including Sonar, has it's unique features).
