The first thing I tried when beta testing this for Dave was to replicate the SSL Bus Comp, I'll be uploading an entire Mod and preset pack for DMG in the very near future, I see absolutely no reason why we cant model the big 4 comps accurately with COMPassion and I KNOW Dave won't tell me that we can't.@midnight wrote:Respectfully disagree, there's way too much parameter tweaking going on for something I'd want to throw on every channel. I thought this early on, but once you've got the mods you want, you rarely tweak it in usage and when you do, it's to make things better in a way that you can't achieve now with the 1176 or SSL. In reality you'll achieve the desired result faster with Compassion if you've spent time preparing it for use.@midnight wrote:there's way too much parameter tweaking going on for something I'd want to throw on every channel. did anyone mention yet that there should be some kind of lateral time markings or reference points on the visual part...so we can tell where in time all that stuff is that's going by too fast to even see anyway...
(i have no trouble keeping up with it, but others do...)
...like if the display shows say 2 seconds of audio at one time, maybe have 4 or 8 equally placed lateral marks on the top or bottom or both for reference of approximate compression time or whatnot,,,(div into 100ms or 250ms chunks or whatever)

After some more hours.. I found the scaling/parameter mapping of the knobs not optimal. Eg. the release range from about 0ms to 70ms is mapped to about 3/4 of the knob range, so there is only a small range available for 70 to 5000ms
For the release, half of the knob range should be at 500ms and the behaviour should be more inverse exponential.

I found also a bug with mousewheel support (may be it was also stated from others?). Knob will only be moved in one direction (upwards). So I can say that the mousewheel support is broken this time.(Cubase 6, Windows 7)

Can anyone else repro this? I can't. :S4damind wrote:I found also a bug with mousewheel support (may be it was also stated from others?). Knob will only be moved in one direction (upwards). So I can say that the mousewheel support is broken this time.(Cubase 6, Windows 7)

Hi Dave, How about a signal chain map (diagram), a flow chart for COMPassion? This could help us see the position of the various control blocks and provide a better grasp of what is where and how to better adjust parameters.

upward compression makes quiet signals louder, while upward expansion makes loud signals even more louder.ttoz wrote:can someone explain the difference to me between upwards compression and upwards expansion? Don't they both make the softer signals louder?
Cheers,

Standard rules apply for all gates: If it's too sensitive, use either Hold or Hystheresis.ttoz wrote:thanks Doc yeah just realized in manual.
however it doesn;t seem to be working that way for me and i have tried a few sources.. the waves idiot proof maxx volume seems to make it much easier.
I just realized there is a fully fledged gate in there but i am finding it way to sensitive even at -80db.. hmmm.....
I really want the bundle so i can just have my two go tos but i need to make sure it can do what i want, however i am certain it's probably just my misunderstanding/my fault
Dave.

Please do so yes. I'm a big fan of the SSL Bus Comp and i'm very curious to hear how close/similar Compassion can get. The Glue comes close but the SSL is glueing better and groovier and is always my first choice now.T_Power wrote:The first thing I tried when beta testing this for Dave was to replicate the SSL Bus Comp, I'll be uploading an entire Mod and preset pack for DMG in the very near future, I see absolutely no reason why we cant model the big 4 comps accurately with COMPassion and I KNOW Dave won't tell me that we can't.@midnight wrote:Respectfully disagree, there's way too much parameter tweaking going on for something I'd want to throw on every channel. Dave.
I reproduced something similar, I guess. When opening one instance of EQuality and one of COMPassion, the mousewheel support works fine only for the second plug-in I opened.
When moving the wheel, in both directions, the parameter will just jump to its highest value and stay there.
Inverting the order in which I open the plug-ins (COMP and then EQ) will have the same outcome: mousewheel support will only work on the SECOND one I have opened. Cubase 6 Win7 as well.
Hope that helps
