So far I am loving Live 9. It has improved tons!
Do i think it was worth the money? Absolutely!
I have been playing with it quite a bit, and I am really really enjoying it. The new features have improved my workflow so far quite a bit, making music production even more enjoyable than it was in version 8.
Here is a DnB track I am working on with Live 9.

With your current setup, can you browse the Live library and load an instrument on a track, add some effects, and set the length of and record a clip on that track without looking at the computer screen at all?

Most people do not have a setup where they can build up the elements of a song including browsing the library, adding instruments and effects, recording clips, quantizing, automation, triggering clips etc without looking at the computer screen at all.DHR53 wrote:I think the idea of Push is that it's NOT aimed at keyboard players and those with a traditional setup... but rather if you are not tied to that paradigm, one might completely rethink the way we make music. The problem being most people don't want to take the time to "rethink" their current system.
With Push one has a 64 key velocity and aftertouch sensitive keyboard that can fit in a backpack with a laptop and which provides an impressive level of mouse free capability.

I am pretty sure that If your upgrade price was lower since you owned M4L, you cannot sell the earlier version..thecontrolcentre wrote:Anyone know what the resale policy is on M4L now that it is part of suite. I upgraded from Live 8 Suite + M4L to Suite 9, so can I sell my M4L license and continue to use M4L in Suite 9?

Same here - haven't used it much yet, but no problems so far. Worth the money for sure!V0RT3X wrote:So far I am loving Live 9. It has improved tons!

Oh yeah that makes sense. Looking at a pixelated two line display vs a 2X" colour screen.pdxindy wrote:With your current setup, can you browse the Live library and load an instrument on a track, add some effects, and set the length of and record a clip on that track without looking at the computer screen at all?

if i'm not mistaken, push can only do the cool browsing & loading of instrument {presets} & fx {presets} with Live's native instruments. I guess you could create racks/macros that have your 3rd party instrument/fx included. Have fun doing that for each individual preset of each individual 3rd party plugin you own.
since i use 3rd party stuff 97.98% of the time this is a considerable shortcoming. especially for studio use, which this seems to be primarily aimed for. for a liveset i can see how using 100% native instruments/fx is a good idea for stability sake.
i hope i'm mistaken about this, as no one else here singing the praises of Push's browsing capabilities etc seem to be mentioning it.
if i'm not mistaken i hope it's rectified.

Push implements everything via MIDI remote scripting and python. What you're suggesting would be the case only if the Live API treats native instruments differently from third-party ones. Or if they deliberately made the distinction in the Push remote scripts. If its the latter, I expect that to be 'fixed' by some other party.ChiTown24 wrote:if i'm not mistaken, push can only do the cool browsing & loading of instrument {presets} & fx {presets} with Live's native instruments
FWIW, since the scripts have already been reverse engineered, expect to see the extra features of Push turn up for third-party devices in a similar manner as happened with the Launchpad/APC (ie the Session Mode 'grid' selection etc.)

Sometimes it is nice not looking at the screen or having to use the mouse... Hardware synths are still popular and it is often for the more tactile 'hands on' experience.Mushy Mushy wrote:Oh yeah that makes sense. I think the new browser is actually a big improvement, it just needs some ironing. I miss the "close all folders" option on right-click! Why would you take that out?zeep wrote:Love Live 9 but dammit i VERY MUCH DISLIKE THE BROWSER. They messed it up. You can't have multiple folders open anymore, unless you CTRL-Click. I hope they change that FAST.

You are correct. It is a significant shortcoming. I too, use mostly 3rd party plug-ins. And yes, it will be some work... But I make lots of racks anyway from 3rd party synths/effects in order to use the macros and save my custom chains, set keyboard ranges etc. I expect a week or two and I will have 'racked' most of my favorite presets... I don't mind the work and I'll take it as an opportunity to sort through lots of presets I don't necessarily want.
