21. Marc JX8P- remembering – what is that sound at 35 seconds – I really love it. Liked the industrial sounds too – like beating metal. Really cool atmosphere in this song. Kinda spacey, metallic, with a cool beat, very nice.

Thanks! You mean that lead that starts at 35? It actually starts around 08:00 and is present more or less during the whole of the track but I use the mod wheel with the filter connected to it a lot so around 35:00 is the first time the filter really opens up and the sound starts to lead.

It's NI Kontakt playing a lead sound from the SI-KTK library, with a nice dollop of chorus, delay and reverb added in Cubase SL.

Drum programming is the one thing I really love to do and have spent a couple of years messing with now. It really was due to Mr funkylime posting some killer tracks here a while back that made me realize it was truely possible to get something good out of sample based drums in Dr008 and SampleTank.

I have over the past 30 years listened hard to and watched many great drummers. I have play with some very good amateur and professional drummers too. But the best is watching up close geniuses like Jack DeJohnette, Danny Gottlieb or Dennis Chambers. This was enough to inspire me for a lifetime. When Scofield had Dennis Chambers in hos band Sco would stay on stage during Dennis' drum solo and get into it so much it was thrilling to see.

By just sheer persistence and usually knowing what I am after I can get some useable drums sequnces pretty quickly becasue I have great tools -DR008/Slicy and Fillin -Drummers, ST2XL, Sonic Reality Drum Capsule and Acoustic Drum eROM kits.

I have really learned tons about using these software tools from just hanging here. Most important I have received so much encourgement from all the crew here every time I post and enter the monthly comp. Without the spirited participation and vibe found here, I would not be doing this with anywhere near the enthusiam I conjur up every time I sit down to play.

I did indeed think that the use of orchestral and acoustic instruments would appeal to more people, even if they don't usually like Hip Hop. So, I did do it on purpose

Sason: Pheeleep - I like 2Pac's work, and this track doesn't fall back. I wouldn't be surprised to hear this 'on air'! Interesting with mandolins (I also use mandolin mostly, as in this months song . Nice drum programming. Only thing I noticed that I didn't like, the overall sound is a bit muddy at some parts. Nothing unrepareable

Thank you so much. Indeed, the mix is a bit muddy. mp3 compression really didn't help in this case, not that I am trying to find excuses. There is definitely room for improvement.

Mystahr: Pheeleep – I think you did the lyrical qualities of Tupac much proud with this new piece of music you built here. The drumloop is just tight here and very befitting to the tune. The guitar is just perfect to change into a more classical setup of sounds. Impressive

I am also ready for negative criticism though. I am all about learning. It's hard to tell sometimes how people will respond to your music. I am always biased, of course, since I am making the music. It's good to get feedback.

I am actually surprised that so many of you like Hip Hop on KVR. I don't see too much of a hip hop crowd on the forum. The bands and artists that are mentionned in many posts are usually from other music genres. I am very grateful that you guys took the time to listen, even if you don't like hip hop...

you've got some good stereo imaging going on I think... but I'm not a fan of the genra... the drum "break" somewhere in the middle made me feel like somthen was going to happen... but the thing really never took off...

Hi Kyle thanks for the reviews. I think it is perfectly fine to admid if something is not within your usual genre of liking. F#ck those who pretend they like everything. I think you really got the gist behind the song. It was never supposed to take off. That was sort of the idea to create the idea of going nowhere and not having a central focal point (listen to some of Wopelka's or Don Davis' stuff. They are my inspiration with this kind of thing)

The same here. You also get the idea. Organised chaos it is. The idea behind my interpretation of atonality with a melodic turn is to have a melody using all 12 notes of the scale (12 tone) with no key and the chord structure not following the normal rules of chord structures. Emerald Tablet can sometimes write great stuff using this idea as well (to use any intervals that create an interesting harmony). I tried to do this same type of thing using alternative synth parts creating dis-harmony.

Because I am sometimes stupid, the name of the song that I submitted appears as "mando" in the mp3 title, but appears as "all strings attached" in the tag. What would be the easiest way of changing this so they match? Vurt is hosting the mp3.... If I manage to get a few votes, I don't want people to get confused.. I just wouldn't want to lose votes because of my stupidity...

Now, I am not implying that I will get even one vote... I do hope so though

Thanks! You know I was going to say I didn't know him, but I actually have seen his work. I just Googled him and saw his name in association with Douglas Hofstadter and Martin Gardner - yay! Cool stuff. I love geometry and tesselation art. Besides being interesting to look at, geometry was the only math related subject I did well in. Come to think of it. My songs are all based on repetition and pattern. Hmmm.

Beardedone - is there any chance you might consider a short tutorial on getting a basic drum track with a few fills and dynamics down, using dr008/slicy/fillin drummers ?

Wopelka, I thought your lyrics were good. Weird, but good. The delivery is dodgy in spots which may or may not be intentional (it's hard to judge from an avowed lover of atonality ) I know I sing more than my share of passing notes so I hope it's OK for me to criticize it in others. Anyway, with your odd lyrics and the right arrangement you might have a very surreal tune. Like Terry Jacks (Seasons in the Sun) on acid or something... I don't know.
