please be careful with this update:

Upgrading to V5 the version V4 licenses are taken away from your iLok account and your existing work do no more load as it should !
Are you sure? A rep from SoundToys on GearSlutz is saying they will load correctly, but they will show the preset name as 'default'. All settings should be correct though.

I've read most people saying they are recalling correctly and a few saying they aren't, so there maybe is an issue that is just effecting some people on some setups? What's your setup?

Was it ever meant that v4 and v5 run in parallel? I don't think so and I never expected it. When you buy v5 it clearly states and asks you which plugins you want to trade-in: "Requires trade-in of some or all of the following plug-ins:"

There you made you selection to get the best price.

Or did you buy the full v5 license in order to have v4 AND v5?

I completely agree however...

The folk here are suggesting they'd like a fall back option if v5 has issues. Not to run simultaneously but to revert back to.

"Oooh I dont know. Sounds a bit scary"
"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"

That's a good idea. If the v5 license would allow to run v4, that problem would be kinda solved, depening on what else the installers do or not do.

Thats correct in the case that you have one of its kind of the SoundToys plugins with a preset in your track,
but if you have several plugins of one the problem raises now each plugin has the same setting.
What is possible now with the rack was done by me using the free routing in Numerology on a mac with several instances of the same plugin without making presets for each of the plugins.

Now I have to rework every setting from scratch again. This is more than frustrating….

I would not update at any price if they were telling me that I could not use my old files anymore.
What kind of company politics is this that you could not use your old files, with cubase 8 you can work with
older versions what is very helpful when getting projects from different sources.

Thats exactly what I was expecting when updating

I see. That may well be an issue particular to using Numerology then. I'll test it myself when I get home.

Different people expeect different things, I suppose. Most plugins updates remove the old version. I think that's quite ok. But the new version should be backwards compatible presetwise, definitely.

You're all talking about the saved presets, right? What if I don't save presets, but just save the project and reload it again? I haven't had yet the time to test this. I never upgrade my studio computer without testing the software at home first.

chokehold wrote:So what does the v4 -> v5 upgrade give me for things like Little Radiator and so on?

Just "no dongle required"?
Or anything interesting?

Need the iLok anyway for McDSP, iZotope, Lexicon, etc. so I don't really care about dongle-less-ness at the moment.
In your case - 2nd activation and "wood" case for Little Radiator ONLY FOR $29!

In case if you have full Radiator you should get a fantastic effect-rack with nice "wood" case.

Thats my problem do not having presets just saved the project or stack in V4

Did not upgrade the main studio machine but they take away the v4 license now this version of the plugins do not work anymore

Oh, you mean the license on the iLok, and unfortunately the iLok is in the studio machine. That's too bad.

EDIT: Drop them an email. I got a free second license of v4 when I had some issues. Didn't have to do with v5 though. But ST seems very helpful.

The V4 is even gone from your ilok account and you could only update v5 then and this overwrites the license on the iLok too

for me this is without words....

ok, I knew a few words but you do not want to read them.....

made yesterday,
but no response till now

With a license of v4 I would be happy, even when its still a lot of work to renew the existing projects,
hoping that making presets in V4 and saving the project again makes them work in V5,
were the name of the preset is secondary but the plugin data are first

To be fair, ST warns you about upgrading to V5. That it may break older projects and that V4 is overwritten.
