Reaktor synths, effects, sequencers & controllers, now also modular level action, sweet.
Patched few nasty synced machines within minutes, with all the entries in the library this could get scary.

How do you guys set up your user library?
I have a lot of Reaktor 5 ensembles etc. in my Reaktor 5 user library.
I'd like to keep that working so that old R5 projects still find their stuff.
At the same time, I'd like to have these available in R6 too and there is only one user library path in prefs...
Would you recommend duplicating all the content for R6 to keep it cleanly separated (but a bit of a waste) or would you just point R6 to the same user library as R5, taking care to "Save as..." each existing user module that I want to use in R6 to keep things working in R5?
How do you deal with that?
Cheers and thanks,
Tom

I've made a new folder for R6 user ensembles, instruments and blocks and that's what I put as my user path, however the R5 library is added as a favorite to the files menu so I can browse to it with one click in the files browser.ThomasHelzle wrote:How do you guys set up your user library?

I believe this is adjustable for text and multitext modules in their properties.oli67 wrote:I don't see anything to change font size, I am on Mac, nothing in Preferences nor in Edit/View/Options menu...EvilDragon wrote: and you can choose fonts and font sizes for text labels etc.

Sounds like a good plan - thanks!aMUSEd wrote:I've made a new folder for R6 user ensembles, instruments and blocks and that's what I put as my user path, however the R5 library is added as a favorite to the files menu so I can browse to it with one click in the files browser.ThomasHelzle wrote:How do you guys set up your user library?

Blocks are monophonic. There is no fixing that, or work-arounds, that I know of. FYI.

The thing it's kind-of emulating is also typically monophonic, to be fair.
But it is worth noting all the same.

Thing is, I dont see where they have to be monophonic. I get that there's no automatic polyphony 'around' a structure made with Blocks, but I cant actually find anything in the Block documentation which precludes a Block having multiple parallel voices through indvidual inputs and outputs. In fact the new 'cable bundles' make me think it should be easier than wiring up multiple parallel cables (if they worked between units at the .ism level)grymmjack wrote:Blocks are monophonic. Also, I dont see anything stopping the creation of a 'Voice Controller' Block that could split polyphony across multiple parallel chains of monophonic voices, as has sometimes been done with larger hardware modulars.
I could be wrong on those ideas, not having access to R6, but neither the Block Manual nor the Block Framework doc say anything about in-Block polyphony limitations.

I suggested exactly this on the NI forum yesterday, hopefully someone will the skills will make this block soonwhyterabbyt wrote:Also, I dont see anything stopping the creation of a 'Voice Controller' Block that could split polyphony across multiple parallel chains of monophonic voices, as has sometimes been done with larger hardware modulars.

And then we will run into what is probably the real reason behind this limit, cpu power. The mono ensembles already stretch many systems to their limits.fred-hal wrote:I suggested exactly this on the NI forum yesterday, hopefully someone will the skills will make this block soonwhyterabbyt wrote:Also, I dont see anything stopping the creation of a 'Voice Controller' Block that could split polyphony across multiple parallel chains of monophonic voices, as has sometimes been done with larger hardware modulars.

If its possible to do, I could see less intensive Blocks turning up that that are better tailored for polyphonic ensembles. I'll take a stab and guess that supporting audio-rate modulation between Blocks is one of the things that makes them heavy, that might be one thing to look at.aMUSEd wrote:And then we will run into what is probably the real reason behind this limit, cpu power. Thing is, Blocks seems to be a 'standard' for building .isms, not a technology in and of itself. That means there might be wiggle room...

Is there a way to do duophonic ringmod in Reaktor with blocks? I don't see a ring mod module but I'm sure that woudl be easy to add. More wondering if there's an easy way to do duophonic like with an Oddyssey.

A common complaint against Oscillot for Live has been that it has ONLY 6 voices! R6 makes Oscillot look positively virtuous, even if it lacks R6's good looks.
I caved in to gear lust ... hoping to have a good play with R6 at the weekend.

Yeah, great shame about the polyphony. Enough great sounding polyphonic soft synths exist in the world to not preclude this as an option. I get the CPU thing, but that's all part of building your blocks, right? Not something as fundamental as that to be imposed.
Also not buying the whole "but that's how modulars are" line either. In 1969 maybe... one would hope we're able to play more than one note at a time after 45 years of technological progress.
