Do not forget to count v7.0.0 as 1 of the 4 releases.

What's next? A major update that releases new metronome sounds?

Only major update was 7.0.0 to me. 7.1 and 7.2 look like a minor update.
Trust me - I am not disagreeing with you - at all. It is sad.

We all saw this coming. They blessed us with 1 less year of updates, removed their add-ons from purchase, blurred the line between upgrade pricing ($149) and subscription pricing ($179), all the while including Studio One 7 perpetual with any $200 Presonus hardware purchase. Their Studio One Pro+ content isn't anything special.

We just have to live with how things are for now, it can't get any worse, can it?

There is only one more step before the worst thing is achieved - going all sub.

Once that threshold has been breached - the limit has been reached.

Me - I am still waiting for a major update....

There's no way anything big comes out before Oct 9th, they want your subscription licence to expire first so they can get another $149.

Well - if they do not want a relentless beatdown by saying they would deliver 4 updates but only deliver 3 - I guess anything is possible.

And remember - Oct 10 only means something if your "annual update" program started with your purchase of V7 on day 1.

If someone bought theirs on Dec 29 - their definition of "4 updates in a year" is different than mine.

Yes, that's me. However, I don't feel the need to give them more money for another lackluster year. 7.2.2 is quite stable for me. I'll stick with it for the time being.

Totally agreed.

For the first time - ever - unless this next update borders on "mindblowing" - I may have to simply let the annual updates expire.

I remember looking at the new Ableton change log that was issued when their latest update dropped about 6 weeks ago - and it felt like it was about 12 pages long. Now that is a update.

Not exactly sure what is going over at Presonus HQ - but something has changed drastically in the last year or so. And not in a good way - at least since this "keynote" video surfaced last Sept
18.

Well there is another free one, 12.3 released as public beta today.
Again load of features.
Two of them similar to Studio One7 (Splice and Stem Splitter which is better than S1 by the way)
Unless Presonus release something substantial in the coming months they will have a hard time convincing people to keep subs or renew perpetuals.

If enough folks decide to not renew their updates - that will get some attention internally at Presonus.

This next update will be the deciding factor for me as this entire year (personally) has been one long boring disappointment.

Given what Presonus came out of the gate with on Oct 10 with V7 - having a hard time believing how little we got. Even one of my fav new features (Clip Launcher) did not get so much as a menu item or feature added - for almost an entire year. How is that even possible?

Also - I am light years away from suddenly changing to Ableton but that crowd is making me a tad jealous in the "update" department.

The Ableton DEVs are just killing it over there.

Exactly. The point is Ableton release these free updates without any commitment when they first introduced Live12 and here is Presonus promising 3-4 major updates when grabbing the $$ last October and yet to release something worthwhile.

Then they pull the plug on it, because: not enough revenue. :hihi:

Sounds exactly like a developer that we used to know....circa v6, v5, v4 etc etc

Maybe not on Oct 10, 2025 - but it certainly won't be a good look.

If renewals tail off in a really bad way - it is not out the realm of possibility that it could implode and disappear. Other products have gone this exact way...

We will find out exactly what direction this goes in the next 5-6 weeks or so.

I don't think this is a fair take on S1. I use Ableton Suite and bounce stems to then mix and mess around in S1 and the new 7.2.2 is really nice IMO. I have used it from version 1 and having both seem to to really help my workflow.

Also, comparing any DAW to Ableton is really not fair because Live might be one of the best software projects ever created in all categories. ( I work in software which does not really mean anything but IMO every thing they do is best in class even outside the actual audio stuff. As for the raw audio DSP, their implementation of time stretching beats/warp and groove is #1, some say Logic is really good but S1 is for sure not even close.)

Using stems created in Ableton for mixing in S1 has really been a nice workflow plus the stem separation is actually really beneficial for learning. Keep in mind that many people in all genres and music scenes make released stuff with S1 and if I made Country or Rock/Pop it might be the best Daw around.
