I've known Sonic Reality and Dave (AKA Squids) through KVR since 2002 and I've been in a number of his group buys. But it seems Dave's end of the year group buys are kinda reminiscent of the drunken dad who opens up his wallet filled with money at Christmas and starts giving the kids whatever is in there. I'm willing to bet that the guys running the website are like -- "What did he just add now???? Come on, Dave!!!" (FTR, my profession is running interactive marketing, which includes managing websites, so I am actually being serious about that comment.) From my perspective, it's no big deal to wait a few days or even a week to get the goods from one of Dave's crazy GBs -- and especially this one. Yes, the anticipation for using this stuff makes it difficult to wait, but I think we should cut Dave/SR some slack (after all, there are humans behind this company). I mean, the deal was already pretty ridiculous with a bunch of DM and OWD kits -- consider that SR has to pay NI for the player (for people who take that option) and ToonTrack for their software (for people who take that option) and that doesn't even consider the drums or bandwidth for this monster. Something tells me that Dave didn't exactly go over this deal with a cost accountant before he put it together! :)

Anyways, happy New Year everyone!
Wow you guys know me so well! Of course... this is what happens when the owner is on the front lines seeing what gets people going and says "Sure we'll do that for you" and then yells to the back of the restaurant "We're doing Dulce De Leche Ice Cream now" and they say "What? But we don't have that one ready!" and the chef says "Well get it ready! That's what people want!".

I come from a world in the music business where you just MAKE IT HAPPEN. I've never done a lot of just one thing but whether it was scoring a TV show where you had two days to compose whatever you were going to come up with and that's it - ON THE AIR. (Imagine the people that compose for news shows the same day!). Or if it is working in a studio where people are spending upwards of $250 per hour and you can't make mistakes or it is costing them $$$$ or if it is a big show with thousands of people watching, VIPS and president's mothers... I've been there. You have to just do whatever it takes. But, that can be a tall order from a whole team of people and outside of a major entertainment city like LA or NY where people might be more used to it. I am SURE that some of the guys at SR are ready to throw me back into the Ocean for adding more to our plate (I didn't anticipate the problems though or I migh have been more conservative about that). But on the other hand we saved the year in a tough economy and that's job security for them. So there IS a method to my madness and always a different perspective that makes all the difference.

But I do need to get some help in management for web and sound development so I will be looking for a right hand person this year to help manage the team. I can't handle it all on my own and need a good problem solver/trouble shooter/organized/knowledgeable/friendly butt kicker to help me out in Sunny Sunrise Florida. A company is only as great as the people in it and we have a gap there.

Also, since you bring up marketing edrummist, I like to think I have a knack for marketing yet the marketing of SR and Infinite Player has been "so so" by my standards. Unusual things like this are great but the traditional stuff... a lot of holes that need to be filled. I like to be the BEST at things I do so this too is another goal for 2010. Infinite Player range in particular is immense and powerful material to market... so, killer presentations with all the info and audio/visual demonstrations you could ever want for a start. Then some catchy slogans like "Infinite Player - Buy it you'll like it". Okay, I'll have to work on the catchy slogan... ;)

This may be a temporary one off product but I care about it a LOT. It combines the flavors of Ocean Way Drums with Drum Masters in such a musically useful way. I'm personally going to make use of this collection myself and I want it to be awesome for everyone - myself included. I did notice that with the new scripts though there are MANY possibilities and choices have to be made depending on the map... for the first time I hit the brick wall of Kontakt's ability to load instruments into a multi (I actually didn't even know there was a limit... guess there is... but you can always load up another instance if you needed to). It's really powerful! I'm excited about it. A major update to DM1 and DL.

Post

Okay, I have a meeting coming up in a little bit as some SRians arise with me to get this ship off to sea. I'll check in later and give you all an update. Cross some tentacles. ;)

There's no accountant in the world that would even consider advising Dave that this is a good deal. :-o Remember the word "free" is not in an accountant's language. Saying that word in front of him is like saying saying the F-word to the Pope....You just don't do that :-o . This is my 10th??? GB and each one gets better. :D :) This happens to be the best ever with all the freebies. You don't know how bummed out I was on the Reason Monster GB on NOT reaching the next level for the bonus. I think we were maybe 15 or so short of the goal. But it still was well worth the money spent so no regrets. :) Look at what he did on this buy, Squids gave us the 600 level even if we didn't make it. :) We did make it and now the free piano :o ? The freebies in itself alone are worth the price of the GB alone. :o I look at it this way, It's all free! :D When you use the coupon to buy the DM2 bundles and most will...Tell me anyone who would even consider an offer like that  ? Roland, Cakewalk, Sony, Waves, Avid, Adobe...the list goes on. The answer is NO ONE! would give (they would offer a discount), but never give any of their products at no charge. It's taboo.... :P

A day or so is not a deal breaker. I can wait it out. My only concern is the Dave doesn't go out of business from his flagrant dealings! Besides this has gone beyond just buying stuff, it's turning into a social club :D The stories from Squids and the other members are better than going out and buy "so n' sos" fabricated book...these are the real deal..the stuff that most likely will not make it to the book and that's the best part :)

Have a Happy and healty New Year... Something wonderful is about to happen

I saw a post somewhere on this monster of a thread about being able to get my goodies on disk or a HD, but now I can't find it. Can someone point me to it, or offer any info? Thanks!

Just got an email...

Thank you for participating in the Ultimate Studio Drums Group Buy! The turn out was massive with over 600 people joining in less than a month. Many extra sounds and bonuses were earned from the additional people joining beyond the expected 200. We are working hard through the holiday in order to start delivering the many downloadable items to so many people around the world. We have run into a few minor delays and hope to have the first phase of downloads ready this New Year's Eve or by New Year's Day tomorrow.

More like tomorrow or Saturday. There's only so much I could get the team to do on New Year's Eve. We've never had a GB with over 600 people before so we have to handle this very carefully. Doing our best!

We may make a custom DVD option for people who prefer that to downloading. It costs a little bit more plus shipping but might be a good option for those that don't want to download. Also a preinstalled on hard drive option some time next week. More on that later. A had a few glasses of wine and I feel fine.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Social Club?? I think they are starting a new religion with the omnipresent, never sleeping God Squids who blesses those who pray to him with epointz. we have a Reverend who keeps reminding us Thou shalt have no other GBs before Esoundz, we have several other deacons and bishops who see to our spiritual upliftment by Spamming :)

My concern too at times looking at the stuff offered in every deal.
About the delay! Well I for one will be honest in saying I am a little disappointed that I cannot get these as early as I can before I start work again on the 4th but I have to thank Squids and team for the incredible GBs you have given us. Things can sometimes go wrong but I think it was not in your hands. You are the only company I have seen (I have seen many over the years) with this dedication and customer support

Happy New Year everyone. Wish you all lots and lots of music.

I saw the smiley- OTOH I kinda have enjoyed the NON mechanical aspects of it all. Its got a warm humanity like feel to it, not all cold business only stuff. Something in this day and age we all could use allot more of.... I enjoy the stories and the like... Keep up the good work and Happy New Year to all. 8)

Question: I live in LA, is there any way that I could just pick it up?
If you want to wait a couple weeks and pick it up at NAMM on the HD or disc option that'd be okay. It'd be fun to meet you anyway. But you don't have to wait that long. We haven't been based in LA for over 10 years now. Hard to believe. I moved the company to Miami just before 2000.

Also, if any of you are going to be at NAMM please stop by the Sonic Reality booth (right next to Steinberg and PreSonus in HALL A) and introduce yourself. Make sure you tell me your KVR nick.
No NAMM for me unfortunately (no longer a working musician, made the switch to social worker about 8 years ago). Maybe if I can scare up a ticket.

Miami huh? Guess I'll just wait for the DVD to come in the mail. Shall I write Alien, or await further word?

BTW read somewhere in this behemoth of a thread that you were going to be putting vintage keyboards into the infinite player at some point: excellent idea. No smelly diaper aroma in the tron though, ok?

I just hauled my sorry butt out of the sack after a long (but sober) night and wow, this thread just keeps on going. Lots of good points made about being patient, particularly the one about how in the past "allowing 6 - 8 weeks for delivery" was the norm. The internet and other bits of modern tech have sure spoiled us. If I've learned anything over the years, it's perhaps the virtue of patience. Having dealt with Squids and Co. for quite a few years now I know that they ALWAYS deliver and make good on everything they promise. I can also say that I have never had this level of service, connectedness and responsiveness from ANY other company I've dealt with. OK, that's it for the caps. But just a case in point:

There is a large large software company based in Europe whose products I'm sure some of you use. I used to be able to on-line order without any problem however over the last couple of years, it continually rejects my card. I've pointed this out to them many times and they always respond with "yes, we're aware of the problem" but never seem to fix it. The last time I dealt with them, I phoned them as was suggested. The chap I spoke with again said he was aware of the situation and that if affected quite a few customers. He also told me that there was no solution at this time. I asked him what we'd could do about it as I wanted to update one of my/their products. He responded by saying he didn't know!!!! I asked him if I could place an order through him by phone. A pause ... "yeah ... I guess that'd be OK"!!! I had to bite my tongue. Whether I continue to purchase their products or not will have no impact on their bottom line but if this is typical of customer support they may have some problems down the road. And I doubt I'd ever get a response or the opportunity to communicate with their "head chef" like we so regularly do here. Bloody amazing.

So ... don't shoot the piano player, you don't know what you've got till it's gone (hey, 2 musical quotes in one line).

To Squids & Co., you folks really are the best and keep getting better. Many many thanks
