actually, they reduce flutter echo and they dampen the room which is pretty reflective and annoying to the ear
they are not for sound proofing, nor really room correction, really just the simplest way to avoid the flutter that happens in this room as the walls are all parallels and somewhat close to each other

and incidently, i think they looked good with the color scheme of the place

Nothing special... and yea that speaker placement does cause some comb filter effects... but its where I produce.
