@ZioKiller / Guido,

Hi, I tried Beta 5, and I noticed that the E4 note is much quieter then any other note above or below it. Changing presets made no difference; it kept quiet.

cheers,

steve.

and also heres the earlier beta4 demo i did, using both milestone and real trumpet.

i dont think i need to put up any of the ones before that. i should redo the real trumpet vs plugin one now.

Great stuff Tony... The Beta 5 demo is really something...

That's one hell of a physically modeled instrument. Really getting to be great.

Seems to be built in simulation of imperfections in playing.

Post

OK, it's not a bug, it's a feature! :)

Trumpet itself is laden with oodles of imperfections. some notes like low d and c# are naturally out of tune and require the leftt hand to kick out the 3rd valve slide to compensate. some notes resonate better than other notes and are therefore easier to hit and play and will be a little louder.

in my demo http://www.filegone.com/3dv2 i try and exploit the latter for a natural effect.

i swear its like you can almost reach out and touch it.

Tony. Do you play at a strip club?

Post

No, i dont even know if i could. I imagine it would be really hard.

This thing keeps getting better all the time. Cool demo Tony! :-o

Nice playing, Tony. I think it's a good example of what's missing in Milestone... so far.

Like when you play fast runs, the trumpet has that certain "crackle-y", sizzling sound.

I noticed that too. Also, especially on the fast runs it sometimes sounds like a moogish synth with portamento. Something with the attacks in the quick runs is missing. And also the portamento is a little bit unrealistic at times.

Maybe one more stage of that "crackle-y", sizzling sound simulation and some tweaks and more randomisation to portamento?

Post

i thought about that a bit. i'm not sure if valves are being modeled and the throw of the valves, especially during fast runs, affects the feel of the tone by valving it off in between up and down positions. its very slight and subtle but i think maybe thats whats making those sections give it away.

theres no portamento, those are also fast fingered runs and thats where, since there are no tounged attacks on those notes, the valving sound might really come into play.
