The easiest way to get Wine on OSX is with Wineskin, and its free. Wineskin has the OSX version of wine prebuilt for you and its kept up to date. It also provides a very easy way to make a self contained OSX app that that has all the wine binaries and windows EXE inside it, totally self contained. But an OSX app is just a directory structure actually, so you can access all that stuff just the same as if you build wine manually.

Otherwise yes you can build wine, I have found the easiest way to build wine on OSX is with this:
http://code.google.com/p/osxwinebuilder/
I was not able to get this VST wine stuff working, but if someone could help me figure it out I could try to bundle something up in wineskin.

You were not able to get wacvst working with wineskin or regular wine (like in the tutorial)?Dewdman42 wrote:The easiest way to get Wine on OSX is with Wineskin, and its free. Yes of course I tried it all, but it was a while ago so I can't remember what to say other than it didn't work. I'm out of town for the next 7 days, can't try anything again until later.

What is your exact setup? What prog were you trying to use it with?Dewdman42 wrote:Yes of course I tried it all, but it was a while ago so I can't remember what to say other than it didn't work. I'm out of town for the next 7 days, can't try anything again until later.

first of all sorry for the late reply - no, I was simply doing it the way described on PAGE 3 and it was working like a charm - using Windows-VST Plugs on MAC without any problem! Unfortunately as I said since LION the tools described are not working any longer with this version so until today it was impossible to get it working on a 10.7 machine ...damando wrote:Did you use crossover or another version of wine? I am on Snow Leopard with Logic Pro 9.1.8 and Live and I would very very much like to get this to work. After about a month of reading through this thread and trying to install wine and get wacvst to work with it I've not had any success.
However I was wondering if there is a simpler solution to getting this all to work. SMPro's V-Machine software installs wine in its own directory /Applications/VFX.app/Contents/bin/wine
So instead of /usr/local/bin/wine the path to wine in the config.plist file would be /Applications/VFX.app/Contents/bin/wine
I've tried pointing wacst to wine with that path but it still doesn't work despite VFX working perfectly with some freeware PC VST plugins I downloaded and installed.
Since most of us are not really programmers or coders would a simpler solution be to make wacvst compatible with the installation of wine which VFX does?
Or perhaps a VFX specific version of wacvst so that one only need to download VFX and wacvst and make some simple changes to configure wacvst as peer the last steps of the wacvst instructions?
If one wants to experiment the VFX software can be downloaded for free here:
http://www.smproaudio.com/index.php/en/ ... ds#mac-osx
Has anyone got wacvst to work with the wine installation which VFX does?

I could not get wacvst to work. I don't have time to figure it out, its way too fiddly and after I spent a few hours trying once I gave up.
What I do now is I simply built a wineskin with reaper in it and wineadio installed in it, then I use that to host windoz vst plugins I want to use on my mac. it works very well, but its obviously not as convenient as having the VST hosted directly in my mac DAW for a number of reasons, but still it works.

I'm gonna try this again.
Trying now, its not loading. Can anyone help me debug this? MissWatson is no longer available. They have a new program called MrsWatston. I try that one and see the following error:
Anyone have any ideas what I need to tweak to make this work?

In case anyone is following this, I made a little progress, but still no action. Basically I downloaded the source code for wacvst and poked around in it a bit. I found a few things hard coded which were not working with my wine setup. Namely, they had hardcoded the DYLD_FALLBACK_LIBRARY_PATH env variable to /usr/lib. That only works with wine if you have installed wine using macports, which I didn't, I generally don't like macports and don't want to mess with it. osxwinebuilder is much cleaner.
(I am using osxwinebuilder script to build wine, which sets it up to be executed out of the $HOME dir instead of /usr)
I tweaked the wacvst source to point this env variable to the right place, and recompiled it. The recompiled version no longer gives the error message above, but it still does not appear to work and no reason given why now.
Perhaps this can only be used with macports wine, in which case I will give up. But if anyone has any other additional clues as to what can be done to make it work, please chime in here.
This was with it configured with Glitch as the VST plugin to use, and then run through mrswatson. Mrswatson reports that wacvst is returning a null, and there is no additional logging info or error exit information that I can find anywhere. I might try later to add some debug logging to wacvst and see if I can find out anything more:

More progress made but still not 100%. I found that wawcvst has some paths hard coded. I updated the source and built it. Now I can run Jamstix from DP...whoo hoo... except the audio and midi is not working between DP and jamstix. The Jamstix plugin shows up in DP and when I put it on a track the gui comes up and seems to be working perfectly. However, hitting play in DP does not make Jamstix play....and furthermore when I try to click on some kit pieces, ugly audio results. So something is wrong I guess with the dssi server. I notice during scanning the plugin I get some warnings about unsupported opcodes.
Anyway just wanted to report I got this far. I've put a lot of hours into this now and I guess I have to give up, besides I don't really know what more to try.
If anyone has any more suggestions for how to troubleshoot this I will come back to this if anyone responds here someday.

Great work on trying to get this to work again. Is there any chance you could share your edited version please?Dewdman42 wrote:Also it came to my attention that dssi does not support tempo sync, which makes it useless for me, so probably I will give up on this for good.
