Cobain? You mean the guy who wrote such original songs as "Come As You Are"?
or maybe even
and then every Pixies song ever written.
just kidding, I really liked Nirvana, but to treat them as some pinnacle of originality is not very accurate.
Never heard these song before! thx for the discovery, cobain was just a exemple from my youth , i could have speak about the breeders,....it was in fact to explane my point of view which is should people stop to consider dj / remixer / ( and ambient writter ? ) as musician and back to real musician whose play with real instrument and wrote new melody unless to loop/cut /.. old one?
I really disklike TECHNO but techno is more creative than DJ etc...

Yes I agree. But obviously the fact, that the difference between the huge emotional value and the monetary value didn't ever matter to the largest segment of the music-buying market has led to different consequences concerning the life of people who gain their lives from music. Some decades ago young people didn't bother about spending their income for that value they appreciated highly. Today much people don't bother at all about consequences, that make it much more difficult for a musician to boil the pot. Most people don't even care about ripping of these highly appreciated values from those to who are dependent on what they should get for their efforts.eduardo_b wrote:I think there's a difference between emotional value and monetary value.
I personally don't believe, that music is basically a good. As it is sold on the market it is, just like everything else. But as I already pointed out, I think that the origin of music is something much more existential to humans than just beeing warez. Marketing is not bad in principle. Concerning the music-industry it is the strict monocultural focus upon this aspect that stresses the value of music. As you point out for example with the excessive commercial attitudes in the 80s and 90s. On the other hand most of those who profit from the actual situation argue from idealized positions that are basically the opposite of the commodity character of music. Which is looked upon as the bad domain of the music industry. They profit from a high emotional value that is not any more related to the price.

Part of the essence of Blues based Rock music, and its sub genres, classic, alternative, punk, post punk, grunge, etc, is to interpret common chordings and melodic phrases in a different way. It is here, "a different way," where originality can often be found, and overlooked.

Perhaps this is because the most successful (and thus most visible) have fame and fortune that that simply dwarfs anything most people have in this regard. So, the perception is that downloading music not paid for has no consequence for those who already have more than they'll ever need. There is no separation, I suppose, regarding the ones who have become so wealthy and the vast majority of musicians trying to earn a living.horn wrote:Today much people don't bother at all about consequences, that make it much more difficult for a musician to boil the pot. Maybe your standards are higher than mine. I still find more than enough music I consider worth paying for.hivkorn wrote:+1Maybe sometimes good enough to download, but rarely worth paying for.

They want to worship celebrity.
They want their existence validated by being a part of something popular.
That's why they will always go with the mainstream and allow themselves to be force-fed.
It has always been the few who really seek out excellence and originality and stimulating ideas.
It has always ben the few who understand deeply.
I don't expect that to ever change.
That's also why I want music sites and critics who will sort through the piles of ordinary stuff to find the interesting stuff.

that might be true.. but

to be part of something, a movement ?
people who don't want to be put in boxes go into the 'doesn't want to be boxed' box.
just saying, yo.

Your boxes have nothing to do with the people you put into them. They are about you.promnesia wrote:they probably don't care, good point. but that doesn't change the box ;]hivkorn wrote:Or maybe they don't care....people who don't want to be put in boxes go into the 'doesn't want to be boxed' box.
I just would like some filtering from people who I think have similar taste to myself. It would take a while to find those people and sites just like it takes a while to find film critics that you agree with.
