It would also be useful to have a scroll bar to grab and use rapidly ... preferably with the scroll wheel, instead of having to click the arrow at the bottom which moves very slowly through the presets.
Yes, having a pop-up menu for more than 20 items is not really usable. The final solution will be a preset list with scrollbars and a search field at the top. As a workaround you can drag and drop instruments from the instruments browser to a track, and it is easier to find an instrument in the browser (or will be easier in v2.6).

Thanks,
Attila

I notice that in the Variations menu there is a Mirror Horizontally option ( usually called retrograde ).
I am missing the other traditional way of music phrase variation, the vertical mirror, traditionally called "melody inversion". So as an example if I play a melody like C D E F the melody inversion (vertical mirror) could be 2 ways:
- chromatic inversion: C Bb Ab G (the exact intervalic twist of the melody around the C axis)
- diatonic inversion : C B A G ( the relative diatonic twist of the melody around the C axis that uses the notes from the diatonic scale)
I think it would be usefull to have these 2 options included.

Hi Tomi,

this is a good idea, and I was thinking on it. Since a variation knows about note qualities only (e.g. chord note, scale note, or absolute/chromatic note) such a variation would do
- chromatic inversion for a phrase consisting of absolute notes
- diatonic inversion (scale note indexes inverted) for a phrase that consists of scale notes
- chord note index inversion for phrases having chord-relative notes (e.g. highest chord note becomes the lowest, and vice versa.)
This would not be difficult to implement.

Thanks,
Attila

Great to hear Attila

Having these vertical mirror variations added to RC togheter with the other ones already available will make the track variation posibilities very powerfull!
Thanks master

Hi,
if already suggested count me +1
Idea Tool , Track Variation.

Post

Hi,
according to road map
"master track should show the scale"
i want to make a two suggestions
first one: ability to see scales in separate line ,over the chord line.
would fantastic imho.
TotalUglyCollage.png
second part of the suggestion:
some kind a thinking aloud and need more brain storm..
i don't know is this is suggested or discussed before..
i am thinking about a Scale Suggestion (Palette?, Helper?)
i guess it would useful to see scales in order according to popularity of shared notes with Master Scale.

so for example:
C Major
A Minor
D Dorian
E Phrygian
F Lydian
G Mixolydian
B Locrian
A Harmonic Minor ( 6 Shared)
G Hungarian Major ( 5 Shared)

btw..
...
i could be wrong/over thinking unnecessarily on this..
so the comments very welcome.

Warm Regards
Yıldırım.

I don't know if this has been suggested yet, but what I'd like (for a future version, heh) is a periodic automatic save point of the project.

So in case of crash it should be very easy to restart with the best confidence at the last automatic save point.

Causes of crash are very various, even by external causes.

Yes, you are right Yıldırım!
That is exactly what you need to do!
But most importantly, scales and modes to show up in accordance with the chords (ie, their relativity!) I would like to see the corresponding scales and modes in color or as a percentage (as they correspond to the master track chords)
For example, the Ionian modes - 100% corresponds to the C Major chord and so on descending and the option of listening in real time ...Or in color (Green -100% corresponds to the chord and some black corresponds to less than 50% chord)
Otherwise I can not understand why the browser scales, if it does not show scales and modes corresponding chord master track?
And so, yes, of course it should be (as in your picture) in the master track! But I would prefer to remain with the master track chords, but tracks with scales and modes would be on every track (because maybe I would like to play with different tracks for different modes and scales, but not all of the tracks in the same musical scale!)
All this is very important! Thanks for the post!
And yet, Attila, I am very, very forward to drag-and-drop only one or selected phrases in DAW, as MIDI file!

I like your idea, Yildirim, it looks very useful, at least for me :)
AFAIK such "scale suggestion palette" is implemented e.g. in Songtrix program, which could be used for "reference case" 8)
Best regards,
T.

Yes, I wrote here on the forum last year about the technology suggestions
scales implemented in the program Songtrix and think to do this in RC just need!

And yes, I wrote here on the forum last year about the autosave and it is also necessary!

Hello Yıldırım,

both of your suggestions are great! This will be added next week, hopefully. The scales will be shown similarly as on the mock up screenshot that you prepared (which is amazing 8) ) only they will be shown under the chords with smaller characters. I wanted to use the grey color the same way as you described.
I have not thought of a scale inspector with scale suggestions, but if you need it, it is not a big deal to add.
Thanks for your ideas!

You already have autosave, it is called 'History' where every modification is saved in a directory called xxx.rcCOMP.history. So saving the composition is much more frequent than with autosave. For this to work you need to save your composition first with a name (that is when the history directory is created and previous states are saved there). The files in the history directory are actually composition files.

Hello lulukom,

this works in the latest beta version that I uploaded a few minutes ago. You need to select a range on the timeline with Shift-drag.

Improvements:
(1) timeline range selection reworked: you need to use Shift-Drag or Shift-click on endpoints to select a range, and Shift-click will deselect it
(2) 'Fill track with phrases' uses the selected timeline range if there is a selection. The last phrase will be resized automatically if it does not fit in the range. Please note that this does not work for ghost phrases which are always the same length as the original one
(3) Strings Staccato has a Density setting. The "Low+Middle+High", "Middle+High", and "High" settings are the most usable
(4) phrase inspector is resizable
(5) minor UI changes
(6) melody generator is allowed to use notes from C0
(7) bug fix: phrase generators do not get regenerated when their length is changed in the inspector
(8) bug fix: MIDI drag-and-drop timeline range issue fixed
(9) bug fix: Quantize has improved precision
(10) bug fix: fixed a crashing bug when the timeline was reduced to 0 length

Yes, Attila thanks, I'll try to work as History!
But that's for me to try to explain why you made the browser scales?
What is he doing? This is just information?

Yes, thank you Attila! But probably beta version for Windows again?
