Come on, no need for the "N" word, you're just being "TRADITIONAL".

(which is actually a worse offense than the "N" word...)

Ableton does have a track mute button. if you click on the yellow track number, its greyed out & mutes the track. I think maybe the guy in the video was going on about a mute shortcut or button for selected takes/clips.

But will it mute or just switch off the track? Will the track sound if it's soloed with mute on? But there are no mute buttons in arrange view and there are no shortcuts for it either i believe (as with solo).

The guy in the video is Chris Cowie of and he is disappointed for the lack of a mute tool as it's not good for live use which is slightly ironic in that it's what Live is geared for.

If you deactivate a track and then Solo it, you will be able to hear that track... but I use the Solo as a PFL so that is how I'd expect it to work.

I guess it's a bummer that the Mute behavior in Live doesn't work the way some people would like it to. But then I guess that's why they prefer other tools.
That doesn't mean Live sucks for live performance or studio use, it just means that it isn't ideal for some people. There are lots of things I don't like about Live, but I still use it because I prefer it to my other options. If there is something I need to do that can't be done in Live, I find a work-around or a different tool. Why should I care what Chris Cowie of X-Cabs thinks?

Ok, corrected. Been a while since I tried it. Just came across the video and mostly remembered being bugged with the lack of their general keyboard shortcuts, like only assign a key to solo certain tracks, one couldn't just select a track and hit a universal solo key f.i.

I've just been loading up my new computer with all my music software. Haven't even bothered to load FL Studio or Sonar this time. I feel a bit sad at the money wasted on those two (especially Sonar producer), but truth is I just don't need either of them. Last time I loaded Sonar just to get the Sonitus effects, but it's not even worth it for them anymore.

I've been a loyal Cubase user for way more than twenty years, from the C64 and the Atari up to Cubase 5. Then Cockos got me and I switched completely over to REAPER during the past year or two. It's amazing how customizable it is and how great it could be tailored to my personal workflow. I still start C5 at times when I need to open a old project or when I need a score view but in the daily work I'm not looking back at all.

I like Orion Studio 8.5 a lot! I use this as well as REAPER, Studio ONE and Samplitude! :)

I realize that some think of it as a "throwaway" freebie but I get a lot of work done in GarageBand

@GarageBandTips: Now that I'm back on Mac, I am pleased with how Garageband has matured. It is not a toy anymore :)

It is stable, and though limited, gets the job done.
