deep'n'dark wrote:The biggest reason related myth has always been that does it have a soundengine or not. Propably not. The reason sound comes from the sum of all the stock effects, samples and effects plus instruments. It wouldnt't make any sence that propellerheads have coded an automatic signature sound to color the sound, that makes them really proud from the beginning of the whole reason evolution.

But, wtf is going on with the bass frequencies compared to reaper's reafir as example? In reason you boost the bass frequencies and you can't sound clean. When you do it in reaper with the reafir, it makes you love the sound. Reason,s equalizers can,t be boosted without sounding dirty. And reason has lot of artifacts in the sound.

The statement that reason can sound whatever you want is b/s. Even my best tunes via the history never make me proud enough. I still love reason to deadh tho, but shouldn't dsp science already be far enough to let me be proud of my sound? If david guetta's best memories sounds good even via cheap laptop speakers and mine always wrong, then i'm not skillful enough or then dsp is not been developed the way it should - to make the Sound translating right via cheap speakers too, not just via my own studio monitors. This is just my own little rant, no pun intended.

But i'll not give up but try to prove, that it's because i need to mix betterly.

Cheers everyone!
The part in bold is not true. I agree with the rest of it, though.

Nah. :) I didn't say "only" hip-hop guys use it. I said hip-hop guys around here like it. I don't know many (if any) local dance / trance / techno guys so I wouldn't have any real reference to that.

Most of the people I see using it around here where I live are doing hip-hop... same with FLStudio. I'm sure that's probably not the case for the rest of the known universe though. ;)

What's funny to me is I thought reason was more of an electronic thing than "hip-hop", shows what I know.

I'm only aware of a few full on EDM/Trance producers that are exclusive Reason users, but Daniel Kandi and Mikkas are a couple. Check out Mikkas' latest track, all done 100% in Reason. It's about as well produced as any track I've heard in this electro/dubstep style:

No clue. Most of the major daws are also kinda electronic music tools these days.

Those two apps in particular, FLStudio & Reason, seem to be quite prevalent in the personal "hip-hop labs" in this area. Many hip-hop beat making guys seems to be particularly enamored with them. I can see why. Their strengths seem to lean rather heavily in a certain area.

Contrary to that, I don't think I've ever seen one of those beat making labs (here anyway) running with Ableton Live as the main app, even though it kinda does some of the same pattern type stuff. It's FLStudio, Reason, and MPC's.

I'm not really into the dance / trance production scene so I have no real reference to any of that but I've not seen any studio not doing hip-hop running Reason around these parts. I'm sure there are some though.

The only other thing I see regularly popping up in the beat making labs is Maschine... that's a pretty popular tool for that genre also.

Well, when you want to sell something, would you say "Well, it's a quite ok product, nothing special, but it is ok." or would say "This product is far ahead of its competitors."? Apart from that, i don't think he meant that RE's are ahead of the other formats in terms of performance or whatever, but in terms of Reason's internal cabling, and whatever you can do with its devices.

That's the point. When you do a comparison between the plugin formats, you have to think of what they can do out-of-the-box, not when using an external software to achieve equal stuff. Hence his argument that RE is a superior format.
