Yes her music is almost all very long form, I found it most useful to see how she works and her influence as a pioneer of modern electronic music.

Yeah, but they'll be busy for a while, tidying the place up. If there's some place that could really use a woman's touch, it's the moon; dust everywhere, no color, everything's a drab gray, shopping and cleaning skills are going to be needed in full force on the moon.

We'll need a few back here on earth to keep the kitchens manned, that's why I suggested that we hold onto the hot ones, they can probably handle making sandwiches, and that's really enough, knowhatimsayin?

None of the really dumb people I knew when I was young are young any more.

in dozens of other youtube videos.
Given, though, that they range from 30 minutes to 70 at least, Im not sure what would be served by including tiny fragments of them in a 14-minute interview; the video does start with her spending a little bit of time demonstrating the kind of work she created on the 2500, which, very clearly is based on very slowly changing drones and structures.
I didn't realize i was listening to the synth doing a drone. I thought I was listening to the hardware humming or some other subtle electronic noise in the environment. I honestly didn't know I was hearing relevant content.

whyterabbyt wrote:Hmmm, depends on your expectations. Its basically an interview with her about her working philosophy. I find that far more invaluable than the kind of music documentary that tries to cram a lifetime's worth of work into a few 30 second fragments of random selections; far more so in the case of work like this that evolves and paces so subtly.
I guess that, for someone like myself that knows zero about her already, that video was the wrong starting point. Though the photos of her young looked familiar. I like learning about people's working philosophy, it's just that I felt there were parts in that video that seemed to be where the audio content of what she was making should be, yet I heard what I thought was just ambient sounds (not ambient music). I also wanted to know why all that magnetic tape was being spewed onto the floor in the one shot. The camera work is ... not my favorite for documentation work. It seemed there was a little bit o French new wave in there, maybe... ;-)

If they can't make it on merit like everybody else, we (the patriarchy) should enforce an unreasonable gender quota to make up the numbers. :tu:

Only joking. That would be insane.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

But only the hot ones, right? That's what I like about DJ culture, nobody takes a chunky monkey under their wing.

Got the new Enya album from my public library before the weekend.

Good stuff, like she has gone back to her begins with The Celts

I agree. I listened to the drones and I quite liked them, but, they are very subtle and I didn't get much out of the film. I also wondered why the tape was spooling onto the floor. After listening to her piece I wanted more out of the description of her process.

Where would Roland D-50 be without those hit albums by Enya promoting the sounds

People don't mention it much, but Wendy & Lisa from Prince and the Revolution ended up being in their own production company. I used to read about them in Mix Magazine and stuff like that. From what I read they were pretty successful.

As for musicians, I find people like Imogen Heap extremely inspiring,... I mean like genius material. She's extremely talented.

This belongs in its own thread. One moment while I split it off.

[eta] Done. Here's a new thread for discussing DJs and what they do or don't do. T-CM11, your post is first in the thread so you can change the subject line if you like. Please leave the part in [square brackets] so it'll be clear where the new thread came from.
