Mojo42 wrote:@Taron and Deft_Bonz: Thanks for the patches :) We finally get a nice collection. I add mine now.

@All: Here are 84 Patches. All kind of stuff: Drums, Pads, FX, Bass, Leads. I had problems, but I also had fun. Unfortunately I have learnt too late how to get a clean sound without having wahwah, wowow, ticktackticktack, pfffffffschhhhhhhhhhwoaahhh and such  : Turn down the second Oscillator, turn down all LFO`s, turn down the first Envelope. What a pity that I first understand this 2 hours ago

Okay but there are a couple of slots which are still empty at my soundbank, maybe I can fill them later with my new wisdom about PG-8X. But I wished to tell you for the case that some other beginners are also struggling with wowwowahwhassssssssssschhhhhhhhhhhpfffffffffffftschakboing and so on :hihi:

Enjoy :)
Thank you! Some nice and useful patches in there.

One thing, though – please watch that VCA Level slider! It doesn't always have to be on 10, you know ;-). Many sounds scream into red, and browsing with ear phones becomes a clear and present danger to one's hearing.

You're not talking about my patches, are you? I thought I put them around -20 to -14 dBFS. Depending on how you play them. They shouldn't scream in the red

Sorry, didn't mean to startle you! ;-)

In fact, I just went through a fair number of patches without paying attention to whose they were. #66 PAD BASS CHORUS is one good, or rather bad in this particular respect, patch – several others in the 60s…

Uh, I sure didn't balance mine, but then I just gave some stick examples. But it's a great call. I'll see that I balance my bank, if I actually get to make a whole one. This thing still feels to me like I'm running in circles for most of the time. But that's why it's called "challenge" right. Thankfully I'm done already, though, hahaha. :P

Post

Yeah, I'm probably guilty of that as well... But I haven't provided my patches as a bank do I'm sure you're not meaning mine :)

Post

I guess Spitfire31 was talking about my patches because #66 Pad Bass Chorus is one of my soundbank and yes I actually mostly try to make the patches as loud as possible because Iself hate it when they are too silent, but I understand that it also sucks if the ears are hurting

I got this and so I will try to achieve a more decent and also more even loudness for all my patches at a soundbank in the future. For the case that I will find the time for doing it I could correct my soundbank in this issue, another possibility would be that you simply reduce your input level

@Spitfire31: Thanks for feedback for the case you have meant me, I also have got a feedback for you: Please care about of whom patches you are listen before you give feedback, because otherwise the feedback is useless if no one knows whom you have meant with the feedback.

@Mehum: Thanks for the new patches. I had no chance to listen them until now, but I will do today evening.

@Deft_Bonz: You asked for feedback so I will give you. I think we all have/had our problems with this synth and it was a great relief for me to see that others have got the same problems

I've just tried something totally trivial with a single sound, but you should play a chord (slurred) or more from C3 or C4 upward, maybe all 5ths and add EQ or filter to it (lower bands below 500, raise only 700, 900, 1200 and so on to your liking!) and add a nice reverb to it, of course!

It's kind of a naive sound, but it has a strong effect, I think. :clown:
Not bad :) I like the dynamic (how it starts and end) I think this is definitely the right direction, but the sound of the pulse wave is anyhow too much. I tried to reduce it, but.........same problems like I had when Iself tried cymbals

Check out Mehum`s "CrappyCrash Part C" that`s my personal favorite of all Cymbal sounds we have so far. It is softer and has no tone, but I think it sounds most natural. At least I would choose this one for the case that I would need a Cymbal patch.

Jasinski is the master of Cymbals, I wonder if he tries some.

You absolutely need to play it so that the pulse waves layer with more than one note and you need to EQ and/or filter it on top, then you end up with a pretty decent cymbal, I think. It used to be better, but the funky nonsense of the synth corrupts the logic (slow attack on env1).

Post

Has anyone got a kick drum they're happy with? I'm having a heck of a time with kicks... (currently layering 2 of mehum's and three of my own but I'm still not happy with it)

Ah I see what you mean. No I just have pushed one key on my midi keyboard and played the patch directly. No layering, equalizing and such. Oh my god this all sounds like damned much work for some final results *ugh*.

I considered about to try to make an entry on my laptop only because my laptop at least have got 4 GB RAM (My PC has only 1,7 GB usable RAM and there is really no use I guess), but there seem to be way more problems than only too few RAM.

Do you know what??? Simply let`s make a track without drums

I guess I go for some ambient style or something like that. This will probably be the best.

So far with my bank (see link on page 1 of this thread) the best i have come up with is the following:-
49 RS Kick Attack C3
51 RS Kick Top c3
and 53 RS Kick Low2
played on c3 - all mixed to taste, routed together, eq'd and with slight tight reverb added.
Sounds ok to me but not great yet.
I'm having real difficulty getting a snare that i like :(

hmmm, tried that last month

If you happen to have MUX, here's a drumset I've just made...it's kinda fun, especially within a mix, I believe.

Okay, total noob question:

I can't get the portamento to work consistently (for some patches), or at all (for most patches). I turn it on, adjust the length of the portamento, and it either starts in the middle of the range and goes up or down randomly, or it doesn't do anything at all.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Post

Works okay for me. Are you in mono or unison mode?

It seems to remember where in the glide it was when it stopped so if you start a new note it'll continue gliding from where it left off, as far as I can tell anyway.

Not sure about the up and down randomly part. There's a lot of drift occuring in mono mode if you leave the Unison Detune setting as is.

Edit: I thought glide didn't work with poly mode but I see now it does.
