I really can't answer to the poll :S To my ears they all sound a bit.. Crap and old?
2 and 5 pleased my ears the most. Though If I listen to 3 first, I don't like it but if I listen to it directly after 2, it sounds more pleasing than number 2. Number 1 was the most harsh and powerful.

The obsession with aliasing is kind of depressing. Noise is what makes a lot of sounds interesting to me. Give me a slightly gritty, noisy sound source over a 'clean' one any day.

I don't know which filter sounds the most analog because I have no experience with analog synths but to my ears I just prefer Filter 1. I feel it's the one which adds the most high-freq to the oscilllators and I like that.
Filter 5 is smooth I guess and it reminds me a filter in Diva.
Also I'm a huge fan of Hive and the really clean and sharp sound informations you can get. So maybe I just prefer digital over analog tones...

That is a cpu killer!! It has a bubbling top end on a saw wave kind of like Harmor which doesn't sound analog. The filters sound great tho.. I think a analog synth sounds more sharp in the top end. I think IL Mini Synth sounds more analog then that. Only if the filters were better..

I have the feeling we're all wrong.
Plenty of room for aliasing synths and filters in my life, but not on a high end analog emu. I'll take all the complex noisy behaviour you have and grin and ask for more ... but aliasing is not part of that - it's something that just shouldn't be a prominent part of the resonance - if I want to make a sine sweep kick using the filter as an osc then it's gonna pose an issue.

I like noise and aliasing and weird shit going on in my audio, and usually I add more if it's not already there. But sometimes I want things clean and sharp, if only for contrastdo_androids_dream wrote:The obsession with aliasing is kind of depressing. Noise is what makes a lot of sounds interesting to me. grit and noise does not necessarily mean aliasing...foosnark wrote:I like noise and aliasing and weird shit going on in my audio, and usually I add more if it's not already there. All starts to get interesting when doing audio-rate filter modulation, producing vowel-like sounds.
Filter 5 is the only one that sounds smooth enough for this modulation at all - although, honestly, I'd wish for an even more "analog" sounding filter, because when torning the filter modulation knob, some ranges just sound artificial.
Filter 1 is a nightmare in comparison, but certainly a nice contrast for sound design, so if I had to choose one filter it would be #5.
Filter #1 could be a playful addition just for fun.
