Damn.....everytime this thread gets updated i think the FX version is ready :D
But i´m still in big love with Dust as it is.

Agreed. The FX will be nice but this thing is pretty deep

Post

Can't remember if I posted already but this is probably the most fun I've had with a VST plugin for years! I feel like a kid, smiling at all the ridiculous and unexpected stuff that keeps happening. It also really makes you WANT to modulate, because it sort of feels like a game trying to get weird stuff to happen by working with the flow field & particle attributes resulting from it.

I'd love to see:

- A bit more control over the modulators, specifically the available beat divisions (maybe do it Kaleidoscope style where you can arbitrarily set a numerator and a divisor e.g. 7/16 or 41/8 - this is a great system for experimental plugins like this one). It's also very hard to dial in a slow LFO rate when it's not beat synced - perhaps a more exponential style knob would work better?

- An option to limit or scale the stereo effect. An arbitrary mapping would be quite cool, i.e. a user definable curve, so you could make everything very close to centre-panned until it reaches the very outer limits of the field. Hard to visualise how this would be implemented though given the field is essentially infinite. Perhaps I could already achieve something similar by scaling down all my particle velocities etc. and trying to keep things nearer the centre? It would be cool to have this a global setting though to quickly dial in the stereo field of a patch you already like.

- More a question, but what does the Y axis actually modulate? The manual says 'forward and backward in the sound field' but I'm curious to know explicitly which parameters are being affected - convolution amount maybe? Again, a way for the user to control this/reduce its effect would be cool when you're going for less soundscapey type stuff and more crazy robotic space alien noises.

EDIT: One more thing - I'm finding it quite hard to gain stage at times. It's a natural byproduct of how experimental Dust is, but has anyone had a similar issue/found any good ways of dealing with it? The change in volume resulting from tweaking a patch is extremely hard to predict, and I'm having to turn the gain down a lot to avoid clipping the output. On the plus side, this massive dynamic range makes it v. fun to run into distortion/saturation!

Any news about the development of the FX version?

Still no demo version.... :(

well thats one way. but you certainly dont "need" to do it that way at all. in fact...thats kind of the old clumsy way to do it, i never do it that way.
chaosWyrM, how do you add a plugin to the list in FL Studio without using scan? do you use plugin manager somehow - this would help immensely not to scan every time - ?
i dont want to hijack this thread...so one last post on this....

i never said you dont have to scan...you do have to scan. what i said was you dont have to use the "more plugins" window.

all you need to do is go to the left side browser window right click plugin database and select refresh plugin list (fast scan). then after that you can simply drag the plugin you want from the browser window, or add it to favorites or whatever.

theres no need to ever use the "more plugins" window for anything, its just a holdover from previous versions of fl studio. you dont need to use the + (add new channel) button either...though i do use it to access my favorites list.

There is a bug in the Juce framework which they're trying to resolve, well that's what they told me via email. I guess they're putting the demo thing on hold until it gets sorted.

Hopefully it won't take too long.

How do owners rate this?
The no demo thing is an issue for me.
Can you make playable sounds or this more of a let it run free type of synth?

Same thing here. I keep waiting for the demo since many months, and still nothing. Too bad cause when it got out, my wallet was basically ready to open but realized there was no demo.

Until there’s a hands-on demo, it’s a solid no-go for me I’m never buying anything that I can’t try anymore. Been there and learnt my lesson.

Only bought this yesterday but I'd say sure you can. You can feed live input into it and you can use your own samples. Seriously cool panning effects possible with this thing, I love it

So so tempted! Thanks for feedback. I wish i could here the type of sounds/presets this was capable of making. I can't find anything online.

Simmo; Check out Cinebient demo's of it, it's a dream machine for ambient, drones and sound effects.

Yeah those convinced me I had to pick up this gem and your most welcome.

P.s. Imo the panning effects this thing is capable of are worth the asking price alone.
