as a marketing genre for you and in the US perhaps ... as the rabbyt said ... weve had a thin strand of bands here for almost 20 years doing a SIMILAR thing (PWEI / CUSM / EMF / prodigy / etc) - we just hadnt conveniently labelled them

werent really a skateboarder or bmx boy ever were you?

we generally would meet up at various places and rather than skate around we would jump down the steps outside the shops, grind the hand rails and all that shit,im not talking going for a leisurely roller skate you pansy :x

acutally I was both at various stages, but firstly I was a breakdancer and we had a boom box and a freshly polished roll of lino that we took everywhere...

Minidisc and headphones... bliss...

A "leisurely skate", though? You punks at your staircases... you didn't know how to use your skateboard for transportation. I'd see you all actually pushing a bunch of times... coasting for a moment... then pushing some more...

I'm so old-school that we didn't even know what an ollie WAS when I started (ie. we certainly didn't call it that) and we could 'tic-tac' for hours at a good speed to get from point A to point B.

Er..

Actually, I was mildly jealous of the actual trick-skaters, though, so I used "old school" as an excuse for the fact that I couldn't DO any of that crap, even after I knew what an ollie was but couldn't do it. ;)

we got our lino confiscated by widnes hypermarket :-o
we were having a break off with another local crew* and security thought we were gonna be fighting :-o

it may also have been the fact that someone spraypainted "CFC possE^" in huge letters across the doors :o

*by the way,i no longer speak like that as im not 13 anymore

^ i was not in the cfc posse at this point in time as i was not old enough,i later joined but then they all started sniffin glue and not really breakdancin anymore so i moved to toxteth 8)

Lady J quoth
I ignored it because you are wrong.

So you're claiming PWEI werent one of the first bands to being doing it?

It was done first by the Beastie Boys back in the 80s...

And I was talking about the 80's too. Guess you're having trouble following the thread.

I also ignored you because you have trouble following a thread.

No I dont. But you have trouble making consistent and coherent sense in one, and a major problem with any kind of logical consistency whatsoever.

If you got the name wrong thats a sign you haven't been reading what we are talking about here.

Bzzzzzt. Incorrect. If I got the name wrong it was because I was conflating two genre labels whilst actually talking about one of them. If I call Eric by the name 'Jim' that doesnt mean I have any problem telling them apart. It means I used the wrong name, for whatever reason. And you brought 'crunk' into this thread, not me.

The fact is, there is alway someone who does something first.

Not necessarily. Evolutions in musical style can be subtle enough that attribution of a 'breakpoint' is impossible.

The point I am trying to make is that often people do something but it is years later before it is appreciated in the current context.

Tautological nonsense. If something was done years earlier, there's no way it can have been appreciated 'in the current context' until now. The current context is current. The original context may have been different. Re-apprasining context at a later date doesnt change anything about the original context. Appropriating an earlier context and trying to pass it off as a causal factor in the current one without substantiation is pure bullshit.

A lot has happned between the Beastie Boys, Pauls Boutique album and today. Only today are a lot of kids picking up where they left off with Punk Hop.

Bzzzzt. Wrong. There's been consistent cross-fertilisation all the way through.

I never said the sound was new but the scene -is- new.

So its a 'scene', not a genre, now. Okay, so we got a rehashed genre, with a stupid name, and a modern 'scene' to go with it.

Sounds like 'electroclash'.

An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."
