I'm confused. So, we were supposed to be all excited about the reveal of.... a standard new website?

I'm assuming AnX was misinformed, and thought the new product(s) announcement was occurring simultaneously with the new website.

That, or he legit thought we'd be "not disappointed" by.... a website. That displays 5+ year old products. Cool.

Relatedly, man am I not a fan of the 'en vogue' style of website, where everything is overlarge and has this 'zoomed in' feeling, resulting in tons of down-scrolling to see everything that's on the page. NI is doing it, Gforce is doing it now, and countless other sites do this.....uggghhh whyyyyyy

The big news is they finally redesigned the website for the first time in 20 years? I don’t see any new products.

Didn’t do a particularly good job on the website anyway. I suppose it’s better than what they had before, but that’s an extremely low bar.

Dave has a fabulous synth collection, and does fantastic videos about them. I’m hoping he’s been working on the world’s first actually-good CS-80 emulation.

I'm pretty sure they didn't put in the time and effort required to launch a brand new website from scratch if they weren't planning to use it to show off some new products. Most likely they will let the new website run a bit to make sure it's stable before making any announcements that will drive a bunch of traffic to it, which is the sensible thing to do.

As has been discussed in here already by others, a CS-80 plugin, without a corresponding keyboard controller allowing Polyphonic Aftertouch and a Ribbon Controller, isn't really a CS-80...

Vangelis probably loved it because of its dynamic performance capabilities more than the raw sound of its oscs (bog standard yamaha basics) or its filter -- Dave Spiers himself notes in his lengthy CS-80 youtube documentary video that the CS-80 filter is nothing much to write home about, just a standard fare 12-pole with no self-oscillation.

What the CS-80 did have is the ultra-rare Polyphonic Aftertouch, a ribbon controller, and all kinds of dynamics switches (e.g. many related to velocity > filter and amplitude and other parameter) all geared toward performance, exclusively.

It was a monster synth designed for dynamic playing. Which was, of course, exactly what Vangelis was all about.

Take that synth -- or even, let's say, a perfect VST emulation of its 'sound' -- and pair it with a standard MIDI controller...... that's not a CS-80, and certainly not the 'world's first actually good' one you're looking for.

Which is why I'm really hoping they do a 2600 instead....
