No. See the steinberg dot net forum for this. It's iLok and it can be soft iLok/license on the cloud, I think just like regular soft iLok. They're going to allow significant transition time for this. The big change is needing an account at iLok.chk071 wrote: Thu Mar 04, 2021 11:39 am I'd be damned if they wouldn't have worked towards a subscription system by now, which would have meant dropping the dongle, and going online authorisation anyway.
I would guee that that's what it means
Finally the very good news from Steinberg!!!

Hmm, if they're transferring to ilok i wonder if they will give us codes to add or if they will manually add them to accounts. Could be a good time to sell off old licenses

I'm trying to search about the source for the "iLok" topic, but can't find it yet!

it's actually a good idea and they're late if you ask me. People want to use their software on more than one Pc and don't want to worry about braking or loosing their key.eivind wrote: Fri Mar 19, 2021 7:53 pm I do not think this is good news at all. Steinberg has a tendency to screw things up. My point is - the current system works. And for that reason alone - given Steinbergs history - it should be left alone.
I'm pretty sure that the suggestion to change the licensing system came from an accountant within their system. Not a programmer of the software we are using.
What ever!

If you think it's a good idea when people can't use their software in the middle of a recording session anymore because the frequent online check for the license failed as the server is down once again.....

Yeah, while for me personally that would be the best thing to happen I don't believe it.sqigls wrote: Sat Mar 20, 2021 7:07 amevidence?samantabharata wrote: Sat Mar 20, 2021 2:52 am ...See the steinberg dot net forum for this. I would be surprised if they switched to iLok, because that would not solve the problem but only shift it to a similar platform.
I rather suspect a typical online activation, linked to a machine ID. In other words, like many others already do. Maybe Steinberg has a better idea to make it more secure but I think it goes in this direction.

I don't know who spread this rumor, but, no, they won't change to iLok.
They said more than once now that they develop their own platform. I know, they're a bunch of liars who can't be trusted, and stuff, and lie all day long to use poor users, but, that's what they said.
