I WANT to love it...

I'm not familiar with many synths, but I bought Sugarbytes Cyclops a while ago.
It has some cool features, but the lack of sub osc really puts me off.
(Doesn't Sugarbytes realize Cyclopes are baritones?)
I guess i should sell it, but I'm hoping for a v2...

"I want to love it" basically equates to "it sucks, but for some reason I feel compelled to get some mileage out of it".
I know the feeling, but, it's simply a waste of time in any case. The situations where something has grown on me are very rare to non existant.

Thanks for correcting me, martiu.
I should have checked before I posted from months old memory.
I had forgotten it does have a sub osc, my issue is that it often leaves me wanting more sub bass oomph (perhaps I'm spoiled by Hive, and now Mariana).
(It also seems to ignore notes below C0 (does it perhaps transpose incoming MIDI down by default?))
I fired it up again to check and I must admit I was too harsh. I think it's a keeper after all.

what i dont like in Sugar Bytes is the blurriness when you chose bigger UI size, on 100% scale is razor sharp but when you go over that it starts to blur, also thin digital sound in general but i find it nice for weird sounds (i own Sugar Bytes Factory), overall interesting company with products that are different but they have some things to improve for surecptgone wrote: Sun Mar 17, 2024 5:52 pm Thanks for correcting me, martiu.

I would say Oddity. I like the interesting character, hate how screeching it can be, and the preset management sucked and I haven't reinstalled it. I have version 2 and have blown it off for some time but I believe the new one makes for a better experience I'll upgrade and like it more. In a vacuum it sounds great. But using it in a track was sort of painstaking from what I remember.
Xpand2 I just could never love as much as others have, I know it's a rompler, but I'll throw that in. I did make a beat when I first started so i'll need that patch because I didn't render. The patch I don't think I could reproduce if I wanted to, it was possibly a sampled instrument. For a $1 deal I can't complain and to note, the track I made I love a Zebralette patch on it.
I love Strobe's sound I own 2 and I don't want to reinstall. I don't want to learn it and the presets flat out suck in my opinion, development has also ceased from what I know. So, I love the sound but not so much the overall package. Innovative and thoughtful. If the company now starts to take it and its brethren seriously, I may revisit.
Honorable mention is Dune 2. I enjoyed its character, but it overall sounded muddy to me. Dune 3 took care of this. I really like Dune 3, but feel it is good for low and pads, I hate to be the one to say how a synth is good particular things and not others, but I have trouble liking bells or keys in it- maybe it's just complexity with the presets not sure. I just feel for good bread and butter keys and stabs its overwhelming. Love the company and the synth though. Dune 3 is like a beauty in this field. Only synthn I ever rebought but wouldnt of Dune 2.
Honorable mention 2 not a synth but a daw called Studio 1. I dled it and went back to REAPER lol. Seems I always do that though. Maybe I' ll try it again. I kind of want to try Bigwig and have been for awhile. Seems to combine simplicity with complexity unlike old versions of FL and Reason I used in the past..

I have to put Hive2 in this category. Sounds wonderful, easy to use, great mix of functionality...but I just don't enjoy it. The filters are varied and sound good but I find myself forgetting I own it. I'm basically using it when I just want a basic wavetable fed through a filter and that's it. And almost always end up replacing it with the same setup in Phase Plant. Tbh, if Hive had assignable macros, I would probably love it. As it stands, XY pads are annoying to use with rotary encoders.

Ahhh man, tough call. I wanna love UAD Luna....I do....but it really, really sucks for beat makers at this moment. No file browser, no routing, no piano roll.....Brutal man. Not to mention I kinda feel like UAD is trying to hold onto the idea that they want Luna to be a recording tape machine thing, rather than a DAW. I dont know...I wanted to love it.
