To be blunt, most people don't seem to want to design their own music either, or much of anything else about their lives.

and enjoy the sometimes-illusory comfort of conformity. Oftentimes coupled with happiness in slavery, in some form or another.

Heck, even REAPER is not much more than an equivalent of a pre-designed LEGO set.
Would you like an angle grinder you order from Amazon be carefully disassembled to smallest parts, so you could have control over the assembly process with hopes of improving it somehow?

What is the operating system you using? Is it Linux From Scratch type of build-your-own distro?
And if it's not, and it's something like Mint, or, God forbid, Windows or MacOS, why the "customize everything" philosophy is so selectively applied?

I prefer the tools I rely on to have a degree of customizability and repairability. The reason for the former - as I've said before - is that humans aren't clones of eachother, so "one size fits all" applies only when meeting the lowest common denominators. Tools designed for that can rarely do all of what I need.

The reason for the latter - repairability - is self-reliance, to whatever degree that is feasible in any given situation.

You seem to be a bright enough fellow, so I'm sure that you understand my reasons at least in principle. A question more interesting is why they appear to matter to you.

I don't see a reason to go preach for Reaper in a thread dedicated to other DAW

You should see my posts on Looptalk, then :)

On a more serious note, you're right, mea culpa. I have indeed become a REAPER evangelist to the point of annoyance; but also an evangelist of Image-Line's Harmor to a similar degree. Not sure that makes it even in context of this thread, but again, there it is.

And for what it's worth, I don't agree with the title of this thread. FL Studio 21.x is not a disappointment for me. That was 20.9, in a way which I might describe as subjectively life-altering. I can't be arsed to explain why for the umpteenth time, and it doesn't matter much anyway.

All I can say is that FL Studio is awesome for what it is. Also, from what I've read from the "red team" on Looptalk, the destination of current roadmap for FL Studio will make many people happy.

The latest version I have won't Auto Fix Delay Compensations so I have to manually look them up and manually enter the values. Also I notice their own plugins put up latencies. Maximus is a big offender.

If you are using lookahead, that's the nature of the beast until you find a way to time travel.

There are very few FL natives which introduce latency...

Fruity Limiter: turn the attack to zero on the limiter tab...
Maximus: turn the attack on the master tab and the LMH Delay to zero to turn the latency off

GrossBeat introduces 15 samples of latency... hardly a showstopper
Pitch Shifter when turned to the Voice tab has quite some latency...seems to be necessary for the realtime effect...
Vintage Phase has 44 samples... not a huge deal either...
Vocodex has 169 samples of latency...

and of course PEQ2 and the Frequency Splitter when turned to linear phase (as well as when used in Maximus)... this is the nature of things but can be turned off if set to non linear phase filters/crossovers...
Means 4 plugins out of 74 have a fixed latency setting but they are all perfectly compensated... not bad I think... I don´t know what´s the problem here... :tu:

So 8 plugins out of 74 do introduce latency while in 4 of them it can be turned off
