K-v-R, lower than gearslutz.

Has a certain ring to it.

I'm actually done discussing the topic with mjones as he has displayed nothing but hollow attempts at salvaging his position through the use of fallacious behavior - therefore meaningful conversation with him on this (or any) topic is moot. I find his converstational behavior duplicitious.

Just read back over his posts and you'll see him doing it to me and others - coloring words, spinning meanings with added hyperbole, attributing things to people that they did not say, all in an attempt to discredit the speaker, rather then actually addressing the speaking points they bring up.

I do not view all disagreements as personal attacks, more so, I prefer that a discussion remains on the speaking points, which I've attempted to direct this one toward all along - yet he again has ascribed to me this viewpoint, which I did not state in any way - yet another convientient straw man.

Shoddy forensic skills. :uhuhuh:

And I still stand by my original statement, and dare call it fact - elitism or Not.
Slang is the degradation of language into esoteric meanings. By degradation it is meant that the ideas or concepts the word is meant to relay no longer has a direct representation, and must be re-encoded by the general populace to be understood. During which time it maintains its esoterity, and hence appeal as an exclusive code-speak. Once the word gains mass decoding status by the general populace it is oft abandonded by the subculture for another code-speak term, hence the empheral nature of slang.
FWIW from my Webster's, Confute = to prove to be in error or false. It's funny that I choose to use a word confute, which I feel is a better depiction of the situation, and now he tells me it's the "wrong" word, even though it fits under his own definition, and is actually a stronger word than refute - which is why I chose it.

If that's not arrogance - show me a better example.

   I also stick with the word moron as well

Hmmm...

I could respond, but I'd merely be repeating myself.

As for personal insults, I'm too mature. I'll leave that to you.

Have a good evening!

Post

Thank you Mjones - much fun was had by all.

Please come again, and you have a nice evening as well.

You're quite welcomed!

Now let me go fight against the degradation of my communication skills. :hihi:

PS. I like how you craftily claim victory by insinuating that I had to "salvage" my position. Impressive tactic. I think I'll add that to the repertoire.

Thank You, I also admire how you turn my humorous attempt to make a point (notice the laughing faces), by mirroring your own behavior back to you into hypocrisy - well done. :hihi:

Seriously though - I think much of the problem here lies in the medium of communication. Were we both to discuss this face to face over a cup, I'm sure the mutual understanding would be much improved - as long as you refrained from using your degraded esoteric slang.

Being German you won't have come across this phenomenon (i hope for your country's sake you never do), but when you're in a club and some 15-year old Chav pricks up his ears at the next cut, shakes his fist in the air and shouts "Chooooooooon!!!!!!!!", then you'll understand.

Mr A
Well, I just had a look at your link, and re-read your post with the appropriate background.

All I can say is, if I was such an openly proud bigot, I'd hope someone took me out of my misery.

Ahh... You were laughing 'with' me and not 'at' me! All is forgiven then

On that I can agree. It'd have to be tea, though. I don't drink.

A large part of language is the nonverbal part. Can't type that up. And smilies don't do it.

No - I was laughing at you :P

oh ye of many assumptions

So you guys made up then.

Nope. It was awful from the outset.

Post

page 11 was pretty cool though ;)

let's summarize:

"beats" is fine shorthand for music where rhythm is the main course

slang, figures of speech and other methods of indirect reference are part of linguistic culture

sometimes language is used decoratively as well as denotatively -- although that latter is sometimes a flimsy house of cards

p.s. -- if I ever learn any, people here might be subjected to my fresh chords

Note the rolly eyed smilie. Subtlety is lost on you, I see.

I may be stupid, but I ... damn how does it go again?
