I would love to hear the opinions of people who agree with me.

You've answered your question there already.
Scientific reasearch for profit negates the possible discoveries of exploration for the aquisition of knowledge.
You're going to find far less innovation based on safe investment and low risk return by in large.
It's a big problem in academia / eduction the sciences and the arts in general.
Just look at the current state of commercial music in general for example.
Not too mention the impact business investment in educational instituions has had on the subject.
In my opinion it's wrong and the subject is really worthy of it's own thread.
It doesn't necessarily result in the best people becoming qualified for the job and task at hand in all reality.
I could discuss this issue for hours with someone myself.
It's a sorry state of affairs to be brutally honest.
I'm no socialist but we're starting too see the ugly side of capitalist economics IMHO.
No political system is ever perfect.
And none take human nature and the notion of greed and power into account.
Lots of different aspects and forces at at play on this one.
Far too many to really discuss here without typing a biopic :hihi: .

This discussion is (so) so funny and sad at the same time
haha. Well let me quote Eminem on this one and
then make a small comment.

Second verse from ‘White America’ :

Look at these eyes baby blue baby just like yaself
If they were brown
Shady lose Shady sits on the shelf
But Shady's cute
Shady knew Shady's dimples would help
Make ladies swoon baby (ooo baby)
Look at myself!
Let's do the math
If I was black I woulda sold half
I ain't have to graduate from Lincoln High School to know that

But I can rap so f**k school
I'm too cool to go back
Gimme the mic
Show me where the fuckin' studios at
When I was underground
No one gave a f**k I was white
No labels wanted to sign me
Almost gave up, I was like "f**k it"
Until I met Dre
The only one who looked past
Gave me a chance
And I lit a fire up under his ass
Helped him get back to the top
Every black fan that I got
Was probably his in exchange for every white fan that hes got
Like damn we just swapped
Sittin' back look at this shit wow
I'm like "My skin, is it startin' to work to my benefit now?"

It’s not the artist, but the people who
just started to listen to rap when they
first saw Em on the tv, and now they think
got the rap thing down! LOL. If I had the
same mentality I would have to look for black
classical music composers and Opera
singers, haha whatever. I only hate
the people that try to spread the fubar propaganda
that there is no racism. Irl I just try to get with
their gf/doughter or whatever...haha.
Black text on a white canvas, do racist people close their eyes when they read a book?

Computers & gene sequencing came out mainly in the early and mid 80's. Whats been happening since then? TBH, Im not familiar enough with LCD display technology to say, but, some of the early "big names" of that genre were Japanese. Crick, Watson were white but I also remember a lot of Japanese involved in that scene as well.

My point is that there seems to be a bit of a lull. Where is that fresh shit that is so crazy sci-fi style that it will take years for it to become mainstream?
Where is the new science that will strike a chord with so many people that it will become a movement, a'la computers or robotics?

Pardon the expression but is there an "innocence lost" kind of thing happening here? (and I mean with scientists in general) After all, the business side/commercialization of science seems to be far more dominant than it ever was. This is bound to take its toll on creativity and innovation.

That is a whole new thread that might be informative.
Will like to see some of the Hamilton Naki stand up and ID themselves.

Post

Good call on Hamilton Naki, then we could always venture
into literature as well, and mention the second woman to
win a Nobel in literature; Toni Morrsion.

tee boy wrote:True, but I wonder what would be in its place? The technology would still have evolved I believe, so technology lead music would also have. People again want to say that the likes of techno, hip hop and house are all black derivative styles. I argue that they are equally 'technology' derivative styles. Had European composers not shown interest in sampling techniques (musique concrete) its probably the sample as we know it would not have been born

yeah and everyone just knows there wouldn't have been any Asian or (gasp) African scientists if it weren't for the slave trade.... lol

I believe it was one of those darkies that invented the typewriter? Surely a good enough reason to bring back slavery?

i live in los angeles and I make hiphop. most of the shows i go to are mostly filled with white people and definitely not 40 -50% blacks, I don't know what shows your talking about. here's a link and a little more on the phenomena.

this has been goin on since public enemy btw

http://p076.ezboard.com/fpoliticalpalac ... =296.topic
The 40-50% estimate comes from one of my kids who has attended several hip hop concerts in Orange County and a few in LA.

This deviates from the original point though. That is: I hope you are not contending that the interest in blues and jazz among African-Americans is equal or anywhere near the interest in hip-hop? Even taking into account gernerational differences, I don't believe this applies. Yes, a middle-aged Af-AM is likely to be conversant in soul and funk, but non-fusion jazz and blues? The chances are much slimmer. I base this on my own personal experiences, the experiences of others, demographics I see at shows and even various media articles.
Always on the one. Always.
