Haven't heard of that problem mate. HAve you ever tried WSFTP or Bullet Proof FTP? I use WSFTP Pro and have never had a problem connecting to any FTP out there ;)

I think this everytime I'm a stoplight and I can hear the ridiculous boooooooooom, bum booooooooooom (always replete with license plate buzz) and it's not even the car next to me, but a few back at the light.

Loud volumes of mid and higher frequencies supposedly are more damaging and induce hearing lost faster (according to said report on NPR).

Any audiologists in the house that can give an authoritative answer to this?

In-car systems that win loudness competitions between owners typically need to score in excess of 150dB to win. At these volumes hearing damage will begin in roughly seven to ten seconds of exposure regardless of frequency.

SOme time ago, I listened to my tracks side-by-side to some commercially produced tracks in a new Merc 560SL (Bose 140). Mine sounded thin and weakly, and I sayethed unto meself: "Never again shall the Xanderman sound whimpish in ANY stereo!"

I live near a traffic light too, and on a main route...so I get that all the time. Especially around the evening rush hour...I often wonder if they know in ten years they'll be sorry for what they have done to their ears...
ah, that's what exactly happens to me too!!!
i live near a crossroad with four traffic lights(!). my house is very near a square with all kinds of cafe's and big clubs, so most of the people that pass from the road in front of my house are dance-heads or show-offs with HUGE car stereos and subwoofers. my musical life is a real hell! many friends tell me that i am a hero that i am making electronic music and ambient in such a commercial-dancey and trashy/noisy environment...
so, please, do not talk about car sub-woofers. i really wish there was some law that would limit the audio level that the car stereos can make! i live in the first floor and my windows are ready to be shattered when these cars pass behind my apartment. sometimes i feel that an earthquaqe is starting(really!)! i am really serious about that! people that first come to my house and have that experience for the first time, they are in shock until i explain to them that "it's just an a**hole with no respect for the others"
it is even difficult for me to hear my own music when composing, sometimes...
best regards, :-)
bakis.
