RIP Black Tom and Beckett. They weren't just cats, they were MY cats, the best cats ever.

June Tabor > Lili Marlene, one of the best voices ever and imo, the greatest melody ever. Utterly brilliant :D

I loathe Duelling Banjos, but this arrangement for solo guitar is brilliantly done :tu:

Okay, here's a lesson in three parts for all the "prog" bands out there...are you listening Dream Theater (and especially you, Jordan):

Matching Mole live on the BBC in 1972:

Lessons to learn:
  • 1) Improvisation is good, but it requires give and take, it's not simply every band member competing for simultaneous solo space.
    2) Just because you're technically good doesn't mean you have permission to wank....endlessly.
    3) Progressive means "making use of or interested in new ideas"...not rehashing old ones to death.
    4) New ideas are meant to be challenging. It's okay to make music that challenges the audience's concepts on melody, harmony and rhythm.
Now get out there and do it right.

...and remember, when in doubt, ask yourself: "Why must I wank?"
