torgo wrote:planet ugh - are you looking for loops/grooves, or are you wanting SampleTank patches for your bonus? It makes a big difference.

As for the SampleTank patch collections, that's what we're discussing / debating now. The "Expansion Tank" collections are the older, out of date versions of the ones in the Group Buy. I'd suggest avoiding those.

The Tron set seems to be a popular choice. But I'm making sure everyone realizes that it's a "fill-in" set and not a complete, well-rounded collection. (It was created to give SampleTron owners the rest of the sounds that were in the Squids Tron Collection set but were left out of SampleTron. If you own SampleTron, you definitely want it. If not, be forewarned that most of the famous Tron sounds won't be included.)

The "SampleTank 2.5 Bonus Disc" set appears to be repeats of other material.

The Bass preview thing is something that will soon be repeated (if not already) in StudiophonIK.

And FYI - we're all in a Waiting For Godot mode, wondering if Squids will announce a major bonus soon that he teased us about when we were close to hitting 5000 users. We still don't have any details on what that might be, so we can't help you there.
Neither Loops nor Drums are of interest to me.

I have bought my first time of the Group Buy at esoundz but was not so very happy with the "rare vintage collection".

With Bass Preview you mean this one ?
"Studiophonik Prelude sounds part 3 : Basses"
I don't know what StudiophonIk is.

zedd wrote: OMG, that would take a long time. You have 1000s of loops and you would have to import each one individually. That would drive you mad.

And not only that, they wouldn't be sliced, so there would really be no point in doing that. Much easier to just drag the REX loop you want to work with directly into your DAW.

Gotcha. So if you want to play loops as an instrument, the SampleTank format is the way to go. (I had no idea, as loops really aren't my bag. I'm more into the live performance, play a note and hear a note kind of thing. But this group buy is an opportunity to try something new.)

We're basically in the same boat in that we've both signed on three times and have a bunch of earlier material (Sonik Synth, the original Piano Collection, etc).

I still say if Squids comes through with the major bonus that he teased us with earlier - or for that matter, even that 25 epointz thing would do - I still might sign up a fourth time and make most of the decisions moot.

Question - how large is that full set. Is it 1 gig, as advertised?
The unzipped folder is 907 Mb close enough for me.

Okay, so you have the rare vintage thing and it's a dud. That's helpful for me to know, as I have to decide between it and one of the grooves packs. (I'm not into loops and grooves either, but I bought in three times through esoundz, so I have several choices to make. Looks like I'll go with three of the RAW packs.)

Sounds like going through IK and using points is a good choice. You can use points to cover half the price, so you'd only have to spend $25.

If you don't have points or think you might want to save your IK points for something else, Little Fish Audio is another good way to go.

They have a link that says "email your best price". You'll get about a 15% discount going through them. If you don't want the extra set from esoundz, that's not a bad way to go. Here's their site:

(be sure to click the email your best price link when you're there)

StudiophonIK is the next instrument coming soon from IK.

Just a guess - it might be "SampleTank 3" (meaning StudiophonIK would ultimately replace the SampleTank line) and the reason why we're having this group buy.

And yes, that's the bass collection I was referring to. Those previews are new now, but all the sounds will be included with StudiophonIK when it gets released. So heads up - that set isn't a duplicate yet, but it probably will be soon.

Hmmmm... the missing 93 meg would be enough for several drum sets. I'd definitely put in a ticket with esoundz and ask about it.

I've emailed Allen. I'm cool either way as I have more than enough stuff to keep me busy for years and having also bought into the audio midi Steven Slate No Brainer + bought the followup 30 dollar ex drum expansion deal and the ultimate 2 group buy I certainly don't need another drum kit. please no :lol

None the less when I posted, I thought I would let you guys know. Now though I think its probably a simple error. Allen was probably busy and set me the wrong link is what I am guessing.

If the image of folders that you showed us is from the "Rare Vintage Collection", then I take back what I said earlier (based on someone else's comment) that this collection has basses from the Bass Collection and guitars from the Guitar Collection. That is not true (although the Broadcaster may have also been thrown into the Guitar Collection 2... I don't remember). And there is very little overlap with Vintage Keys. Those patches are almost all rare vintage synths that were initially part of the the Rare and Vintage Group Buy.

That is definitely a great collection, if you don't have that stuff already. That is absolutely a good pick for a whole bunch of cool synth sounds... some with a heck of a lot of character.

Nope. Not a dud.

Thanks for that info, Curt1lp.

I'd like to know for sure if the rare vintage collection thing really is duplicate samples to the Vintage Keys and Electric Guitar sets. It would be disappointing if they advertised repeat material as "exclusive" and "unreleased".

But that folder of yours looks really interesting to me. If that turns out to be the real set, I'd be tempted to take a flyer and go with it as one of my bonus choices.

Especially since nothing else on the list is looking all that compelling anyway. It's probably either going to be three grooves packs or that set and two grooves packs. And I've never been into grooves/loops.

Post

torgo, thanks :)

I decided to buy at esoundz for my second time and get the exclusive Bass thing.

planet ugh - if you're still reading, take a look at that folder curt1lp posted earlier. Does that look like the rare vintage collection set that you downloaded as your first bonus choice?

See my last post. I think you may have missed it.

no, not at all.

no, not at all.
BTW my unzipped installation folder is called: dl-rareinstruments1_st2

I would say you really have to check the content of the rare vintage collection as I had to be given the download manually by Allen and to my mind its possible he sent me a link to the wrong one due to the similarity of names.

No, I didn't miss it. But I knew Planet Ugh had selected it (he was disappointed with it - when I said "so it's a dud", that was based on his comment) so I asked him to confirm it.

The earlier poster who said it was all duplicate stuff also said his folders were different. So it looks like what Curt1lp has is NOT the same as the set we'd be getting as a bonus.

But I fully agree - Curt1lp's set looks sweet. If that set were one of the bonus choices, I'd select it in a heartbeat.

That explains it. Yes, Allen made a mistake. Consider yourself extremely lucky. You managed to get "Squids Rare Instruments vol 1 Electronic" as a freebie.

(That has to be the one - the instrument list from that one includes the OSCAR, PPG, Voyetra 8, Serge Modular, Theremin, SidStation, Novachord Tube Synth - all of which are on your list.)

Okay, so mystery solved...

Now back to the other question. If someone has the REAL rare vintage collection plus the vintage keys or electric guitar sets, could you please run Anti-twin to see if the other poster was correct about it being all repeat material?

(It may be repeat in the sense that other sets have vintage guitars, Hammond B3's, etc. But that's not the same as the samples themselves being duplicates.)
