Waow! :o
I think u've just found a second career option if ever u get bored.
Writer!
...or grafitti artist.
Although ur probably best not going down the graffiti route tho - probably would get caught,,, with its length and all.
And then u got the thinkin in between sentences etc etc.

Thanks for the story! ;)

It's interesting that wildstyle graffiti and that weird-ass kid's robot dance on mytube
have both inspired me to make odd music

Everythings is down. My server is dead. No loss of Data but I have nothing to plug the hard drive in, I've run out of IDE slots.

This could take a few days. I have no money for backup situations like this.

Will keep you posted

Good gawd I have bad timing.
   :-o
I finally get constant net access and I killed Tech's site somehow :(

Sorry for the ill-timed bump.

I was wondering why my server was saying
" Illegal Operation: Boot Failed : Please click on my kitty "

Post

I got a new band, Techy.
While your server is down write one of your stories and I'll narate it aloud over a song with a dancing midget.

Interesting challenge. I'll 'ave a go.

A midget you say....hmmmmm

The best I could do was a cheesy melodramtic science fiction spy thing. I had to stop myself rambling and literally losing the plot on several occasions. I hope I don't regret posting this later. It's got about every cliche I could think of. Sorry it doesn't suit a narration but maybe next one will be done in the style of William Borroughs. Oh and just in case- there is no chapter one and two.

The Hard Drive Crash
by Philip K. Techbot

The story is.....

It's chapter three. And the narrator Noob1 is returning from a mission having been the only survivor. However everything is not as it may seem. Is Noob1 an enemy spy working for The Man? or is simply reporting to someone higher up in the KVR?

Noob1

Date 2324 6 7 3

Activaction: 2324 5 7 3

Cell: Unknown

The young captain led the way. Had I been alone I would have quickly got lost within the tunnels and trenches. Equipment lay strewn everywhere, transmittters, computers encryptors and synths. Cables hung like ivy gone crazy from every corner, every box, every table. Lights blinks, screens flickered, People hurried about. Every one of them with a distant worried look on their faces.

I followed quickly behind Runagate as he twisted and turned niftly through the aisles. "Just ahead" he chirped, he seemed to be the only person that didn't have that worried look. I knew if I could see my reflection..... now...... I'd probly see the same.

"Are you going to the party tonight?," Runugate turned his head to ask while continuing to walk forward. I expected him to trip over any moment.
"What party's this?"

"It's to celebtare KVRs victory on the Riaan front. That'll show The Man that we mean business. I knew one of the opereatives that was on that mission, he was in my forum. Guess he's a bit of a hero too, eh? like you? eh? "

I didn't like the sound of that. I had followed my orders like any operative would. Six KVRians died . One guy went nuts. I survived. That didn't make me a hero.

We entered the developers Section. Coders gazed blankly at screens. Motionless, they commanded the machines in front of them ,via infra-red devices surgically implanted where their eyes used to be.

Alongside them Purists with huge magifying glasses on a rotating arm attached to their heads examined the microfine oscilations of their latest preamp modulators. Audio extractors clamped to each ear. They worked oblivious to us.

I watch them now, but I do not understand their cause. Why do they fight? I am not one of them. So much of my reports seem inadequate at present. To understand what motivates these people, I recommend further investigation into these factions, to understand how they can dedicate their lives to a cause that so completly escapes me.

Yet I see their worth. I see the necessaity for the extremist as much as the innovator. And every army must have its enemy, The Man must have his resistance.

Its all healthy. .

"Hey. they might make you a moderator!" Runagate's pace slowed a little.

I reduced mine to stay behind him. These aisles were treacherous. "I doubt it and I doubt i'd accept it anyway. Who needs the hassle."

We turned another corner and came to a stairwell, we descended. The constant noise abated. The silence swiftly but gently overcame the sound.......... The sound of the lights flashing. The sound of people The sound of activity simply descended. Decreased. Till just the beating of my heart . And Runagates footsteps.

4 Minutes 33 seconds later, we came to the bottoms of the steps. We turned and travelled back in the direction from where we'd come only this time several hundred below.

I've written in my reports before of the people who work on this level. The Samplists. Or Loopers as they are sometimes known. There function within the organisation is still unknown to me. Outcasts? Perhaps.

But it appears that there is some sybiotic relationship at work here. The exact benefits to each party may be unknown to me at present but it is something I will look into, time permitting.

Runagate opened the door and we stepped into one of those darkly lit laborotories that the hackers and the musos use. In front of a banch, what only can be described as... a man, stood hunched over a box of electonics and fibre optic. Beside the table sat a midget with goggles peering into the light emitting cables. The man handed the cables to the midget one by one.

"Meet the Tech" announced Runagate, suddenly not looking half as easy going as he did twenty minutes ago. "This is Noob1"

I stood forward to shake his hand but he either didn't see it other completely ignored it.
The midget returned all of the cables to the Tech. He scrutinized every single one of them. And replied. "It's this damn plugin, it's hogging up the resources and is just not compatable with this legacy system."

Huh?

Runagate tried again.

The is Noob1. He's got the EMCradio transmitter.

The Techbot froze.

"Give it to me". For a breif instant, this bald bespecladed man looked more like a mad proffesor from the vid archives than a leading member of an underground resistance.

"Eh, Give it to me, Sir"

I removed the device from my pouch and handed it to the Tech. He took it from me gently and looked at it forlornly. "It's dead.....Crashed and Burned".

He placed it beside the box he had been working on and begun unscrewing the lid. He quickly removed a small square object.

"The HD looks as if it is intact. We should be able to route it to one of the DSP effects. Maybe with a bit of compression we might be able to get this going."

I have no idea what any of it meant, but I assumed the geek was saying something positive because both he and Capt. Runagate were smiling.

The midget began doing a jig on the table.

I stood back and watched the two of them patch cables, tweak knobs, change slider settings. I nursed my arm. It still ached from the gunshot wound and would probly do so for some time.

"So whats so important about this radio?", suddenly it just didn't seem to be so important as to lose the lives of six good men.

They ignored me and continued with their resuscitation.

"At least all the data is intact now all we need is an external ide to u2b case."

"Why couldn't you just podcast the info? or better yet just make it available for download?", I asked.
Techbot stopped what he was doing and looked at me. Straight in the eye, unblinking.... And smiled.

"You wanna be like the rest of em? Eh?
You lost some good men getting that radio back. Now you wanna just give up and give it to the man? It may be archaic. It may not be personalised," He practically made quotation marks with his fingers. "It may not be 'analogue' or '64 bit', Noob1"

Did he say that word with contempt?

"or come in a convientient downloadable package," he continued rambling," But it's about community. It's about the music man"

"Sure" ,I replied. I didn't mean to piss the guy off, sheesh some people get so emotional, "but there are easier ways".

"Easier ways to what?" He demanded.

"To fight. To win the war." I replied, almost exasperated.

"Noob1. The war was won a hundred years ago...... We lost."
