Oh, and price?? Loud isn't good for me
Well spotted. :tu:
Mine's the older model like in the pic, has the important, very effective mid control in the "clean" (or better, crunch :hihi: ) channel and a welcome presence control, but lacks seperate gain/masters for the lead / lead boost channels and the vintage/modern switch.
Both versions are cool ...
You would certainly love the "bedroom mode", playing along to a CD @ normal listening volume is a joy. :tu:

I think they are around €1500 incl. tax new, but very rare as they're mostly hand built afaik.
That probably means you could still order the old version if desired, don't know.

Hink wrote:okay, so being so impressed with the first Frenzel but being disappointed that they added an option of a third pre-amp tube for an '800' sound and given the fact this seems new, this pre-amp (with the two watt option and stereo line outs options) is on my radar right now
Yeah, man, having Fender and Marshall channels panned to different sides, not to mention fully independent controls, is a big step up from simply adding a JCM800 upgrade, at least in my mind. I'd even consider it if I wasn't so thrilled with my Black Pearl 30 lately.

Ouch.......

That's just for the head. Oh, the DAUNTING task of a good 1x12 cab......

Of course my badcats cost mo' for sure BUT they are combo :hyper:

Cab's no big deal, really.
Get an affordable / 2nd hand plywood 212, put in WGS Reapers or ET65s, bingo.
I'm using it with a lowly Marshall 1922 atm, sounds fine, though granted, it would also like one of those Park 412s its bigger Marshall brothers sit on, with the nice dark low efficiency 35W Celestions.

Ampeg has a new "double-baffled" cab that supposedly kicks out a lot more low-end than traditional cabinet designs. It's fairly cheap, too.

More low-end? Gets my interest straight away :hihi: I will be having a look/try if i can. I do need a new 4x12" or whatever x whatever" extension cab anyway but not before i have money to spend and its not urgent.

So anyway amp wise the latest and without doubt most odd one of the bunch to join my own setup is:

http://www.drumcityguitarland.com/drumc ... 6C113.aspx

As to be expected it will not be doing high-gain, down-tuned palm-muted stuff i mostly do. So its a big departure, What it will be doing is taking care of clean to light break-up (at a push some rawish overdriven type thing). Did not buy it new of course, I picked it up off of the same person i bought my Marshall JMP-1 from. TBH as i was helping him to sort out his studio space and then it came up he wanted to sell it, I thought well i won't want it but anyway i will take him up on the offer to borrow it and :dog: i got fond of the thing. Going to have a fiddle with the pre-amp valves on susiwong's advice. Its only the second amp i have owned packing 6L6s in the power-amp (other was a dual-recto a good few years ago now). More of a tactical move for studio use/tracking bands that do not use the sort of sounds i usually go for. It fit the criteria of not being over 50-watts (a valve/tube amp i mean) and the price was fair/mates rates. Apart from the pre-valves tinkering i am considering trying other 1x12" speakers in it as the stock Celestion is an 80-watt job which is double the amps output and although i ain't tested others yet i think it may well be to effecient plus there is always room for a celestion in a 4x12". Time will tell what i end up though and 'as is' it is very different than what i have on tap with a big round low-end that is pretty saggy/not a tight, chest or gutt whacking beast like i personally need. Yet to put any pedals infront of it either. Still have the 6505+ Combo on the buy list but this one just popped up when i was not looking for it (yeah it happens rather alot...Curses)

Dean and a tame 7ender combo? What is the world coming to? You could say i have lost the plot but it is moot since i never had the plot to lose to begin with

All the best

PS: It still has the spring reverb tank inside it and fully functional

I actually love the original Hot Rod Deluxe's clean channel. Snipping out the presence control, which in turn removes the negative feedback, and putting in EL84 adapters really makes it come alive, giving it that on-the-edge-of-breakup tone that everyone loves.

Dean, when is that new surfer tribute album coming out?

Post

I have it all written/demos done. Just need to get that Hank Marvin signature strat for that bridge single-coil klean twangish soaked with teh spring reverb 'sound' and i might even really push the boat out with a bit of slapback echo. Watch this space hibidy

I deserve it though and then some/payback :hihi:

Had a chance to try this recently, looks like a great buy in theory (we were looking for a decent amp for a 17 year old), in person it was lacking any kind of serious balls.
The sound I expected was there, somewhat, just not the punch of a 50 watter.
Could also have been the Epi LP or the built-in 112, don't know.

The new VHT Special 12/20 looks like a licensed version of the old Visual Sound amp. Power tube voltage switching, multiple output tube options, and 9V DC power for pedals. Looks cool!

Did i never mention how much those Peavey shitfield erm sorry shefield speakers are plain awful? I don't like them at all and they don't suit high-gain stuff at all IMHHO (They suit cheap solid-state practice amps or make a decent amp sound like stale muck). Although i am not saying that was certainly the issue as obviously i did not try or hear that one my friend. I'd rather have it in a head format but they don't do them so when i do get one the last thing it will be doing is flexing the shitfield. Their bass cabs/stock speakers seem fine, Just them shitfield jobs. Notice anyone who uses a 5150 or 6505 and if you see them with a matching cab its been fitted with different brand speakers or more likely they will have a Mesa Recto cab or a Marshall 1960...etc

YMMV and this is just very personal disgust at the 5150/6505 cabs dude :)
Have as much love for them almost as much as Hink has for Les Pauls

Looks extremely cool ! :tu:
I'll have to try one in person when it's out.
With all those power tube options the head might be the perfect studio power stage for my tube preamps.
Not sure about the combo tone in the clip though, a bit too glassy for my tastes.

Yes, this test was like having you in the room for the shitfield - , and Hink for the LP - hate, good fun, why didn't we go for a beer afterwards ? :P

Seriously, you might want to wait for a head version or buy a s/h big one instead.
50W rules are made to be broken ... :hihi:
We need
MORE POWER !

Cheers for the video link, I agree it seems like it would be (in head format) with cabinet of choice plus pedal(s) and pre-amp of choice a studio power house. Not that bad price wise either, I presume the man was talking in US$. First post-name sale VHT amp i can see being very handy :tu:

Even with PODs, AxeFX and the like it would be good. Never seen the Visual Sound original Eric so can not compare but the blank canvas with still some switchable flavours is
