maybe you should rather do some research instead of being (un)patient. every vendor decides which range to sample. Thus, obviously two different vendors can make different decisions. This is very common.synchronizer wrote:I've been patient, but would anyone be able to explain why the ranges of playable notes are different between Diamond and VSL Kontakt, and why the pitch bend doesn't seem to work when set to the down position?
Maybe it's all supposed to be this way, but I'd like to make it a certainty.

I wouldn't call waiting a week impatient.
Last thing: How come there are no real slide downs for down pitch wheel position for most instruments? I'm trying to troubleshoot- maybe there are no such samples, or maybe my installation is corrupted. In any case, I get an up pitch slide but not real downward equivalent.

Hey, just wondering if anyone can offer a bit of advice. I've been considering getting an orchestra collection which has patches or multis of many instruments at the same time, along the lines of symphobia or albion. I'm not a serious orchestral composer at all, but I find these mixed ensembles a lot of fun. Do any of the Kirk Hunter products offer these types of patches? I notice there are combinations of some kind. How extensive is this? Mixed string types or brass types? Any combinations of strings/brass/woods?
Obviously with the insane deal on it would be nice to find this kind of thing in the Kirk Hunter products.
thanks

I don't know about kirk's orchestral multis because I own only violin libraries but is usual to put together in a multi various section of the same category like violins, violas, cellos, and basses for instance. But if you have enough ram it's very easy to create a multi (or several) in kontakt with exactly the Kirk's instruments and articulations you need and save it for future use.

Multis is one way of combining things to create various patches. However, afaik the KH libraries are absolutely NOT like Albion or Symphobia in that those two have various combinations of instruments prerecorded already as samples. This is supposed to sound more natural than combining things in multis in a library that offers only individually sampled instruments. In practice it does sound very good but the drawback is that you don't have as much flexibility as with a single instrument type family of libraries (as in KH, EWQLSO, Vienna, etc.). A lot of the composers that I know, tend to have both types of libraries... as well as many other specialty type things. So, if you want the best of both worlds you might want to get Diamond now and then something like Symphobia/Orchestral Essentials, or Albion. Given the huge amount of money you'll save on Diamond in this group buy, that might not actually be a bad idea. You can get something like OE and Diamond and have a really really nice setup while still being able to get both for not that much money.
Available on iTunes, Amazon, etc.

Thanks for the thougts. So the one thing I'm struggling to understand is (and I'm sure it's been talked about a lot): Diamond or Conert Strings II and Brass II?
In what ways are version II of each superior? Better recordings or simply more articulations? Bottom line is the sound really.
Keep in mind I don't do much orchestral stuff and I do have the Kontakt 5 library and Synful Orchestra.
Is Diamond a huge leap beyond the Kontakt 5 VSL library in terms of quality?

Kirk Hunter, if you are watching this. I fund a problem in Diamond that may need some looking into. The instrument I've opened here:
http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/87/0 ... entsne.png
It doesn't have any sound whenever I play notes. There is no sample missing dialogue, but simply there is no sound. This instrument is under the TVEC 3.1 trombone instruments, and then under new samples.
/Users/Shared/Kontakt Factory Selection Library/Instruments/Kirk Hunter /Diamond /_TVEC_3.1_Instruments/07_trombone_instruments
I compressed the samples the other day, so I have no idea if the problem is related to this, but I assure you that I haven't encountered any such problems. The samples are all there too.
Please look into this as soon as possible; I need this trombone.
Thank you very much.

I took a look at this and my problem is different.
When I load the regular Trombone 8,4,2,1 there are no rips or flutter buttons. They are grayed out.
If I open the 'New' folder and load the 8,4,2,1 Kontakt asks for missing samples.
It wants rips and flutters, but I looked in the folder and there are no rips and flutter samples.
If I tell kontakt to skip the missing samples, it loads and nothing plays.
In the 'New' folder there is a samples folder and an instrument nki.
I looked at the French Horns and there is a new folder, but it only has a samples folder and no nki.
The French Horn loads with an active rips button, but no flutter button.
The trombones load with no active rips or flutter buttons.

There are probably a number of little problems like these scattered throughout the library-- it's pretty large so I don't blame Kirk or anyone. I just hope that this will be looked at soon.
Hmmm.... I looked in the French Horns folder in the TVEC 3.1 section, and there is no new folder... hmmm

I think this exchange will help you some:Echoes in the Attic wrote:Thanks for the thougts. So the one thing I'm struggling to understand is (and I'm sure it's been talked about a lot): Diamond or Conert Strings II and Brass II?

KirkHunter wrote:You hit the nail on the head. Diamond offers woodwinds, and a few percussion instruments, harpsichord and piano, etc. But the strings and brass in CS2 and CB2 are, IMO, better than those of Diamond. However, that is not to say that the ones in Diamond are anything but pro-level!J van E wrote:I think Strings II and (maybe?) also Brass II offer more then Diamond...? Newer and better samples and more articulations? Otherwise the price difference wouldn't be so big! Having 'everything' in Diamond is great, but I rather have the best strings (plus maybe brass), because the other missing instruments can be used from other plugins just as well (they usually are more hidden in the mix). Imho the strings are the most important!forbiddensilence wrote:I wondering if i shuld purchase diamond...or concert brass with concert strings..bit confused at mo...but i'm sure i'll figure it out..
btw the horns sound great!!!
BTW 109 suddenly! A giant leap forward! Cool!

Cool, thanks. Couple last things if any knows:
-It says the size of diamond is 65gb. Does anyone know what it reduces to when compressed with Kontakt 5?
-Also, do any of his products have an arpeggiator/sequencer type function scripted along the lines of what's in Albion for the short repeated notes, or in Session Strings?
cheers

it has a button for duplets and one for triples, but no pattern generator like Session Strings...

Hi,
so far, I found the following bugs in Diamond (yes, I have applied the update). Kirk, can you please test/verify and provide fixes:
1. VPRO Solo Brass: same bug as with Woodwinds (IntervaLive down does produce noise) where it was fixed. The VPRO instruments are important since some insturments are not present in the TVEC3 versions (i.e. trumpet a, trombone a and french horn a).
2. TVEC3 Woodwinds: English Horn, Obow and Clarinet feature some sustain sounds from Trumpet A. That does not sound right.
I would appreciate an answer/fixes.
Cheers, AKJ
