Ableton Live 9 announced

The upgrade prices have changed. The shop ones that is.

Yesterday I put the upgrade to Suite 8 into my cart. I already have Live 8, operator and sampler so I thought 164 euros seemed quite reasonable. So today I went to buy it and it's gone up to 224 euro with a little note saying 'the price has now changed'.

I think I'll wait until it actually comes out and then decide.

Yepp, did the same. Put the Suite in the cart yesterday at €164 and now it's at €239. I was thinking about to hit the checkout button but was still hesitating. I thought I don't need all those instruments (I own and love Sampler though) but it would have been fun to play with M4L. Ah well, I'll have better to wait for the release and upgrade to the standard version as last time. Congrats to you who got the deal in time

According to an Ableton rep on the Ableton forum, if you had it in your cart (or were going to buy it....!?) at the previously low published prove you should email support and they will sort something out.....suggesting they will still honour it?

So, they can't get a website right, their pricing structure ia an absolute mess, Version 8 was a freakin nightmare in the making upon release and people are lining up to be early adopters????? Seriously???? How about letting the Abes track record stand for itself in recent years and exercise a little caution people?

It was a mess when Live 8 came out. Was it then that they added an additional $50 off for users from versions 1-6 or something?

This to me seems like a bigger problem than just rushing. How pricing decisions like this make it out the door for a company with this large of a user base is simply baffling. It seems someone must have made the "executive" decision on pricing and either never listened to feedback, or no one spoke up.

Anyway, I like Ableton's software and want them to be successful, so hopefully this is not a sign of worse things to come. I only say this because Live 8 was apology after apology (no share option, pricing, again pricing and stability).

Even though Push looks awesome in every way I've seen thus far, I intend to make one of these before Live-9 comes out.



That M4L comes with Live-9 Suite now, is a real plus.

Certainly I admire the Bitwig guys for having a go, but I wonder how they really hope to take on Ableton (clearly their target...) given it is a product with well over a millioin users, training centres and user groups worldwide, hardware devices to die for, etc. Ableton's future ongoing dominance in their niche looks pretty secure right now ....

Perhaps by using a "Reaper" use/pricing model?

Reaper hasn't exactly brought down AVID, Steinberg, Apple etc though has it? They still dominate, Reaper is still largely ignored in the Pro world, the media, etc. I get the impression that even many of its old advocates have moved on to other more prominent alternatives.

In any case, the rumoured prices for Bitwig are not far short of the price of Ableton, so I don't think they are deliberately opting for the "Poor Man's Ableton" epitaph just yet

In reality a developer looks at the $$$ raking in more than who buys it.

That sudden $100 increase/hike/mistake with Live 8 suite upgrades is a big PR fiasco. Email support@ableton.com. Or stop by their booth at AES/San Francisco this weekend and complain.

So you don't mind if a company increases their pricing every day without any warnings or grace period? I would understand if this was six month later. But one day later. Let's see what pricing Ableton has next week. And next month.

They didn't increase the price. They made a mistake and then adjusted the price back to the level they had originally intended.

Well, from the outside it didn't look like that. It looked like a hike in price one day later. Let's see what the price is tomorrow... So far the Live 9 upgrade pricing story has been a big mess.

Yeah, I saw that at the Ableton forum but I just don't know. Their first offer seemed to be too good to be true and it turned out that so was the case. I still haven't decided if I really want to upgrade to Suite as my only interest lies in the included M4L. I think I have better to wait and see and purchase only what I really need (I'm not even sure I want or need to upgrade to Live 9 at all). I like Live 8 and I'm loaded with instruments and effects as it is
