I'm using it with tonespace to create my own progressions. :)

why do you need both ?
is tonespace not enough to find chord progressions ?

Yeah but i'm recording them into Cthulhu for later use as it's 32 bit plus i add extra notes as tonespace only seems to play up to 7ths. It's great fun anyway, especially when you add in the arp. 8)

Cthulu is very interesting and tons of fun! I especially like the chord presets.

In the arp section, how do I tie 2 notes/steps together? If the rate knob/clock is set to 16th notes, how do I tie steps 4 and 5 together to make an 8th note?

Ctrl/Cmd click at the top of the note lane.

I think it's Alt click on pc.

Is this mentioned in the manual, btw? couldn't find it at first sight. Strange when not all options are mentioned in the manual.

Yeah my bad. I've noticed a couple of things missing like what the midi thru bank is for, anyone know?

This is pretty awesome, and something I've been wanting for a long time. Not the chord stuff specifically, but being able to use it as a MIDI phrase sampler. I use Ableton and find that if I record a bunch of MIDI clip ideas per track, it starts to feel really messy and difficult for me to keep track of stuff. With Cthulhu I can program a ton of ideas into the arp module, and then create clips that just sequence between them. I will *definitely* be using it a lot when I'm on the road and don't have a MIDI controller.

This + nerve can really take me a long way towards writing the foundation of a track quickly. Duda puts out some seriously quality stuff.

Here's a fun trick for people into sampling...load up your samples into a sampler mapped up the keyboard. Then jam with them finding good combinations. Find one you like? Hit "learn" and play the chord. Do that for as long as you want, building up sections and variations. Now you've got each of these sections and variations playable from a single key! It makes it really really really easy to compose new sections and mess with different arrangements. You can also do cool stuff with breaks...load a break into the sampler and duplicate it a bunch of times but with the first hit removed each time, so they all play to the end. Now with the cthulhu arp module you can do really cool break edits. And maybe you create variations of the sound and map them octaves above the main sounds, and then use the octave offset to play those different variations of the sound at a particular point. And lots and lots of other possibilities...when I first saw this I thought that I'd be listening to tons of bach-inspired dance music over the next year (probably not such a bad thing really :D) but there is more to it than "just" playing chords. It's essentially a powerful step sequencer and midi phrase sampler. Create all the midi sequences you want and they become available on a single key, ready for you to arrange your song. I'm going to experiment with it for live performance too...because again I can load all my samples up into samplers, all the MIDI phrases into cthulhu, and map them across my keyboard. One cthulhu + sampler combo per song. Can you imagine that for live mixing? The entire song, with all the combinations you can think of, laid out across one keyboard, all MIDI tempo-synced. Maybe something like this exists already that I don't know about, but man, I find this to be really really really exciting. And at $40 it's a f**king steal. That guy's crazy.

oh and for people wanting polymorphic chords, yeah I hope he adds it, but in the mean time you can chain two instances of cthulhu together :hihi:

Hello, I used Cthulhu to come up with the chord progressions in this tune.

Enjoy
