It's ok Ned, sometimes you get that itch in your pants and mother nature takes over, there's nothing that you can do about it, just go with the flow.Ned Bouhalassa wrote:Well, I took the Matrix 12 V for a second spin, took another look at that 169 deal for V 4, and got my credit card. Hi,
at the official Arturia forum i created a thread where i collected Matrix 12 + Xpander videos:
http://forum.arturia.com/index.php?topic=83591.0
This also includes tutorial videos about both the plugin and the real Matrix 12.

You missed the exciting Ingo evolution. He discovered that if he added external FX, he could recreate his usual brass patches to his liking. Yep i admit that in this case i was wrong with my first impression. Sorry...Frantz wrote:You missed the exciting Ingo evolution. Even without adding FXs for improving the sound it still offers tons of features you will rarely find in other VA synths (at least not in a single synth).
In that thread Toby from arturia provided some useful informations i was not aware of, eg. about different ways to use the Lag generator for Portamento. I also mentioned that the PAGE2 features could be used to switch off the Osc keyboard tracking to create some Drone like sounds.Frantz wrote:You missed the exciting Ingo evolution. Yes i like Synth Brass patches indeed which is no secret and the Oberheim synths are great for this.
ne point about such patches is that they are usuable for many styles and not as limited in their use as some of the more "experimental" stuff. One of my favorite lead sounds is a Synth Horn. I also got one in my Waldorf Pulse 2 factory patches and in my fre bank for PPG Wave 3.V.
Anyway i am also working on other kinds of patches for the Matrix-12V at the moment. Takes some time to learn the tons of features included with this synth.

FWIW yes there is a manual indeed:Kriminal wrote: Im thrilled...especially with all the 'tips' .... dont know what i'd do without them.... oh wait...is there a manual?

THe manual also includes a litle part about the history of Oberheim synths.
Besides that the tutorial videos i mentioned in my new thread at the Arturia forum (those are from the official Matrix-12V website) are quite useful too. Taht thread also includes lots of link for vidoes of the real synth.

Matrix 12-V also includes a "Program Chain" page that could be used for easily accessing your 128 favorite patches while it seems to also be possible to access this by MIDI.
I added more infos and my own tests here:

I owned a Xpander which I sold in 2004 (I posted here about it when I bought it in 2002, but seems like the search doesn't go that far back).
I played around with the demo today, and bought it when my 20 minutes were up.
Yes it's close. It lacks some 'oomph' in the bottom end, but all in all and from what I can remember, it's pretty accurate.
I saw some say that it has digital oscillators, but it doesn't, it's fully analog. It did 'use digital' to keep the oscillators in tune.
There was a separate page on the Xpander where you could auto tune the oscillators, or set them to be wildly out of drift.
Wonderful instrument, and I have been waiting for this emulation ever since I sold the Xpander!

To be clear, I'm not complaining about "accuracy", per se. The patches sound similar to the hardware, no doubt, but, the devil is in the details. To my ears, the filter needs to be oversampled. I can't run the synth at 176k, it sounds better at 96k but the CPU goes through the roof.Z wrote:I owned a Xpander which I sold in 2004 (I posted here about it when I bought it in 2002, but seems like the search doesn't go that far back).

I don't recall that, it might have happened, or, there might be some confusion about the discussion of the Matrix 6/1000, which are DCO based designs.I saw some say that it has digital oscillators, but it doesn't, it's fully analog. It did 'use digital' to keep the oscillators in tune.

Well, I was not directing my post to you in specific. Yeah so the filters need some work, like they always do with VA's.ghettosynth wrote: To be clear, I'm not complaining about "accuracy", per se.
IMHO, only u-he's Diva gets it about pretty much right.

Here's a little something sci-fi-ish I put together in the past 24 hours. 9 instances of Matrix 12 V. Fun synth!

Yeah, I haven't spent more than half an hour with any of the other three new toys because I've been having too much fun with this one, dialing in formant frequencies and whatnot. Kindof ironic, I went into the Black Friday discounts specifically looking for a string machine, grabbed Synth Squad for Amber but that synth doesn't come off as particularly intuitive, even after a few youtube vids. This one I can just go to town with immediately. Wish this had been announced a few days earlier and I would have skipped Synth Squad.electro wrote:Solina V is superb.
I don't know when I'm going to get around to really playing with the M12 but Solina alone was worth the hundred bucks for me.

Maybe you could post something. Every time I play the thing I feel like I'm stuck in a garage in 1984 trying to get my thing together and the rich kids walk by in their argyle sweaters and popped polos with a shiny Roland JX8P tucked under their arm. They're pointing and laughing at our shit sound and setup. Walking around to see -- exactly -- what they're pointing at, the $39 pawn shop price tag is still attached to the back of the Solina, and, I can't help feeling like I just walked into a job interview with toilet paper stuck to my shoe.
