This one is actually pretty nice. I think it's more chillgressive than psytrance though.

I do find myself becoming fixated with great sounding hypnotic kick and bass. It is part of psy trance that excites me and I see it as a technical challenge which is both hugely frustrating at times, getting the right rhythm, fatness, mid range clarity, roundness and groove seems to have me too-ing and fro-ing through the synth parameters and seemingly trading one aspect for another. So far I have not found 1 specific synth or technique that has nailed the perfect psy bass to my ear so I will just have to keep on experimenting with different synths and techniques until that day comes. Yet the challenge draws me in like a moth to a lamp at night. What is good kick and bass comes in many variations and highly subjective.

Like Tasty says I like probably vibe off about 5pct of the tracks I hear and it is as Recursive says mainly the track itself and not just a kick and bass combo. However I seem to find the artists I like are getting both the track itself (sound design and music) and the kick and bass locked down tight and hypnotic. Ultimately their experience giving it the extra edge. More of a progressive dude here, to coin a loose and somewhat incomprehensible tag but will also enjoy the occasional top tune from other sub genres, forest/darker stuff.

I love searching thought the history of Goa and psy and finding some new tracks to enjoy.

While it springs to mind: When you listen to an artists discography you find that almost always there are a few stand out sublime tunes and the rest are not to taste or sounding as good, typically just a few very, very good tracks. It is subjective but you often find any given artists has some "skip that one" tracks. So we should not be too hard on ourselves.

If you can make 1 superb tune it is a very commendable accomplishment.

Those were the good old days!

Well I have a sweet spot for the pre-2002 era of psytrance, I blame the synths.

I wonder, if you were forced to use only one or maximum two software synths for everything (excluding drums), what would be your choice?

I'm talking about modern progressive psy sound mostly (E-Clip, Relativ, Static Movement and the like)

Hm.. If only one, I'd propably pick synthmaster. But if two, I'd go for Serum - Polygon (glitchmachines).

Synhtmaster is a good suggestion feature-wise but I don't like the sound of it.

Thing is that I have a very nice set of software and hardware synths but I now want to focus on few tools and learn all the ins and outs of them. I think I'll pick either Spire or Serum+Sylenth combo and won't touch any other synth I have untill I make few decent tracks using only the above and some limited set of effects. Otherwise i feel I'll never make a decent track. :?

i might remix and remaster that (psy/chillgressive) track if i feel like it one of these days....

about synths, i'd say omnisphere for me and....... not sure about the other one... alchemy or icarus problably.... (but i'm more on the low BPM side of things)
about to demo synthmaster and reaktor 6 since i sold sylenth and i'm not too sure about hive anymore.... i'll demo hive too just to not make a mistake
