Native (to Cubase) 32 bit support was dropped at version 9. Since then you've required a 3rd party bit-bridge to use 32-bit plugins.
The worst thing is it doesn't support 16-bit MS-DOS plugins.
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

Ok, a misunderstanding then. I find "32 bit / 64 bit" a lot clearer - since 64 bit can also be X86:

Regarding no longer supporting vst 2 in Cubase, the information comes from Steinberg.

Could be fixed when I start setting cubase up for dual / triple monitor use then, hopefully it is. But I most certainly wont be touching windows 11.
Why ? Windows 11 works fine here, with Cubase 12.

Seems you really prefer Bitwig so why bother picking up Cubase ? I could pick a million holes from Bitwig but thats why I demo'd it and didn't buy it.

An answer to your question.

Here is the answer to your question from Steinberg.

This is where I found the information.

January 19, 2022. Within the next 24 months, Steinberg's host applications and plug-ins across macOS and Windows will offer VST 3 compatibility only. VST 2 hosting will no longer be supported.

I will no longer use or update Cubase. There are a few other issues for me so with Cubase so why fight it when there are other equally great DAW's available. I'm hoping other DAW's do not adopt this policy.

Post

There is no question of fighting here.

Where do you see there is a battle here?

Just an answer to a question about Cubase 12 no longer supporting vst 2.

Indeed there are other Daw,

Hoping indeed that the other Daw do not follow.

A strategic mistake by Steinberg in any case.

Especially since few companies switch their catalog to vst 3.

To name a few (Arturia / Native Instruments).

We'll see what happens next... about Cubase and the other Daws.

Cubase 12 still supports VST2. Read it in the article you posted. At which version it won't anymore is still unclear.

It hurts more than when end of The New Kids on The Block was announced.
We have to wait when 16bit plugins become popular again (for their vintage sound).

Cubase 12 does have VST2 support. BUT Cubase 12 does NOT support VST2 when running on native Apple Silicon mode*.

*They make it sound like VST2's don't work at all on Apple Silicon, but we all know that's just the Steinberg marketing department making dubious claims because there are hundreds of VST2 plugins that run natively on Apple Silicon.

Uhm, every company has either switched to vst3 or is in the process of doing so. Arturia is vst3, most NI stuff is vst3 (NI is slow tho).
The loudness war is over, loudness has won

Yes of course the other publishers are switching to vst 3 more and more.

But other Daws don't make restrictions for vst 2, well Steinberg

Indeed, announcement of 24 months but uncertainties.

Thought is that moving to Cubase while interesting in some ways, the indefinite planned obsolescence of vst 2 support is a real problem.

Indeed it is, I think it's too early to block vst2, still there's lots of plugins on users projects still on VST2

I like Steinberg and Cubase, but the sooner the de facto plugin standard is out of propriety hands, the better.

That said, you can stick with perfectly usable older versions. Heresy, I know.
