This month in the OSC there's a korg opsix that I now want to demo. Also an FM8 and a couple AuroraFMs (including me).

Awesome. Dx7 patches work in AuroraFM (and others). Think I'll get that.egbert101 wrote: Fri Feb 02, 2024 6:50 pm A nice indication of the true potential of the DX7 when programmed expertly after twenty years:

Another example of DX7's 6-operator sound potential.

I've seen some of this guys DX7 videos, I struggle sometimes to believe that's really a DX7, they're so good.

I think the answer to the modern-day FM synth is Ghost by Exacoustics (now that it is out officially).
Low CPU usage and GREAT interface that is intuitive and not overwhelming. Unlike so many others it is a joy to program.

What a wonderful topic (I just adore the tone of a good FM synth). I have browsed through it and some really great mentions that I am happy to say I also have some of in my library. I know the Plogue is technically better than the Arturia as far as your typical DX7 clones go, but for myself I do usually choose the Arturia when I want a DX7 as my brain gels with the way it is set up, hence I "flow" better with it and get better original results with it.
However, my favourite FM is Nemesis 2, and I just upgraded to Nemesis 3. Not a huge amount of changes other than compatibility and more GUI sizing steps however I will always upgrade to support those guys @ Tone2 because their products as a whole are my desert island plugins. Yep, they are my favourite synth plugins and synth developer in existence. I can't be anything BUT biased when I love them so much, but I have absolutely no affiliation with them and the only words I have ever exchanged with them are basic support questions.
I rely on them so often (every song at least once) that I make the rare exception of using an AAX wrapper for them so I can use them (Patchwork, Metaplugin or Studioverse, and I have just tested them in the new and free Plugin Buddy and they work brilliantly in that too). What got me onto Tone 2 WAS actually Nemesis, as I wanted some punchy FM bass and I kind of just randomly came across it one day and that was it....hooked for life. That thing can do huge bass (then I found Saurus, possibly the most underrated virtual analog synth plugin ever made with the cleanest punchiest bass of almost any synth plugin, and yes that's WAY off topic but I just couldn't help myself)
I just wanted to recommend it, the demo restrictions are not too intrusive at all, and if you're into the idea of a different take on FM synthesis I really do suggest you give it a try!
So yes, Nemesis is actually one of my 5 desert island synths and it made that list quite easily - give it a chance, they are a small indie team and such nice guys (Markus and Troels), I can't sayh enough good things about it. If you do end up trying the demo I'd love to know what you thought of it!

BTW does anyone remember Linplug Octopus? That one was a littler ripper FM capable of that really punchy FM bass sound too. I used it a lot back in the day and in fact I still miss Linplug/Peter. Such is life.

-PLogue ops7 because it sounds so damn awesome
-Tranzistow ,feature wise it's the closest thing to my tg77 and the formant waves bring it into fs1r territory
-Zebra Hz , great in combination with the phase distortion (casio style) osc effect .

If I had a dollar for every time you mention these, I’d have enough to buy all three... and maybe even a preset pack!gentleclockdivider wrote: Sun Sep 15, 2024 1:30 pm -PLogue ops7 because it sounds so damn awesome
