Here's something that's fun, artistic, musical, and blissfully random:

You guys kept calling me an elitist because I don't feel strongly ammount randomly generated music?
Not elitist: just uninformed and content to maintain an old opinion that no longer applies to contemporary random composition systems.

so I guess we're going for at least page 20, then :hihi:

in my case, I usually just splash out a swath of midi notes in whatever host, then copy, paste and even sometimes vary that clip and route it through different instruments and effects

however, there is some "tasting and judgment" involved along the way, as well as exploration and something like writing, i.e., "well, having said that, how do I wrap this up?"

but in my case sometimes more energy goes into naming the piece than in actually slapping it together ... perhaps another example of framing

but who can say that humans themselves are not random generators? :D

ahja, is this the kind of answer you were hoping for? or if not, could you provide some examples of the kind of responses you were hoping for (even if they are made up, like customer testimonials ;))

(and if whyterabbyt quoths me, I will make the rabbyt caw, oh yes I will! :hihi: ;))

I probably just wouldn't f**king care what they said
and would pass on the quote-fest

One called 'The Velvet Underground', and another called 'The Living Room' I believe? And the good ol' Rivolli still has it's moments there. All I remember is I always wind up at The Devils Martini having to pee real bad! :-o

Most awesome potential - Oasis at College/Spadina. The backroom is amazing! Was at a couple of poetry jams there. Perfect! And a few other joints in Kensington - keep your eyes opened. :hihi:
aye!...we ARE on the same page ;)
excellent!...thanks!
I do agree...Oasis is pretty darn swell!
if you can get into the harder stuff, try the next Altered Beats (you simply can NOT miss a flyer or poster...they SEVERELY over-promote)

on a more academic note,
have you checked out http://www.interaccess.org?

Any post that I can communicate on a intelligent level is the most I'm looking for at this point! So, yes.

Markleford, I don't think it's that I'm uninformed... or untaught about the subject as I have been familiar with the idea for quiet a while now. Perhaps we are speaking of different random generators. I speak more of the ones you can find in the Reaktor user library where you don't even hold down (a) note(s). You load it up, you press random, and there is your "song". I don't understand how anyone could disagree with me on this... But I guess there are a few.

You said it... I didn't. [/quote]

Heh, but to stir up some more angry people. I, personally think, some of the best ambient tracks are made by trance and techno producers. Here are a few examples... Hallucinogen/Shpongle, Etnica, Pleiadians, Infected Mushroom, Future Sound Of London, Orbital, 12 Moons, Galaxy/Electric Universe, Juno Reactor, Jaia, X-Dream, etc...
I thought I smelled trance here! :D

Sure, who are also ambient artists. What's wrong with that? With all the prejudiced talk... Besides, that has nothing to do what anything at this point.
