Yea. To me serum sounds too bright and harsh, whereas MX sounds warm and lush. Serums osc's are great but the sounds serum produce are soulless. I like serum dont get me wrong, but its too perfect.

Are you sure you want to keep on going after you've been pointed out to be entirely wrong about multiple things that lead to your claim?

'cause look, when any reputable software developer makes claims regarding anything quantifiable (such as aliasing), they're probably well aware that their synths are going to be analyzed to death. By people who know what that they're seeing and apparently by people who don't. It's not like they aren't aware that claims such as no aliasing in oscs isn't going to be actually tested by anyone, because it will.

Who are you responding to, Functional? Maybe add a quote?

to sadowick, sent that in kind of late :D

Since he wants to address the issue with square wave instead and if he's going to make another one of these videos without taking a lesson about aliasing then it's going to be bad

Playing with it, tweaking and modulating, creating super fast modulating sounds without any artifacts. Everything in 96kHz session of course. Sound (modulation) is crystal clear.
I don't care if sine wave have aliasing. I can't hear any aliasing artifacts in real world usage.
I remember few years ago such fast modulations were impossible in vst world. Now it's possible withe eg. MX. Can somebody tell me why in such situation I should care that there's aliasing 30dB below dynamic range that human can perceive?

Post

You shouldn't care, true. There's no audible aliasing there.

I finally got my hands on the Massive X :) Well, first impression is excellent! I'm seeing it gradually as my favourite digital/general purpose synth! Here is why (from a 'normal' user point of view):

- Great sounds (it is really between Massive and Reaktor which just what I want!)
- Great GUI and colours. I was not sure of that till I run it and made the zoom to 125%. Wonderful! With readable fonts (1080p).
- Design is excellent. It immediately gave me the feel of a great balance between advance functions and ease of use. It reminds me of Sugar Bytes Factory in a positive way :)
- Low CPU usage! This shocked me! I didn't expect that! I'm using Bitwig 2.5.1 and Ryzen 1600x.
- Perfect presets for my artistic depressed mode! :hihi: I love NI way of feelings. They don't disappoint here!

Now, the only negative point might be the upgrade price from Massive. It is $149 right? I'm not sure as I upgraded to K12 from my Maschine collection for $249 so I feel I got Massive X for free :p But to be honest I wouldn't upgrade for $149 from Massive. for $100 , maybe but ideally for $75. Anyway, I expect it to be like that next discount.

Damn! I have too much to explore tonight :o
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

I'll maybe upgrade on a Black Friday sale for say $50 but other than that I don't feel the need
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

Well in certain conditions, you're probably gonna hear it. Even the old Massive has a "dirty" sound btw, but it doesnt mean its better or worse than other synths.

I wonder why there were sounds from the beta dropped that were actually pretty good?

Please include at least a favorite feature in the presets.

So I finally demoed Serem. To give credit where credit is due, it is probably the perfect wub wub synth. The filters aren't bad and there's great variety, but, it's nothing like Massive X in terms of flexibility and character. I'd pay $20 for it on sale.

I'm surprised at how much I like MX TBH, I never, and I mean never, create anything that could be confused for a wub wub jam.

sadowickproduction wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2019 7:43 am Ill make a follow up video in the morning addressing this. I think square waves would be more obvious as you cant simply filter out the aliasing within the oscillator close to nyquist. Ill also compare the behavior of frequency sweeps in Massive X with Serum. It will be more obvious then.
You don’t need to. The original already shows that on the non sine wave sounds there is no aliasing. That the sine wave has harmonics has nothing to do with aliasing. And if you sweep a fundamental above nyquist you should expect aliasing, but who would do that? I would call this user error.
I hate pure sine waves, the MX sine sounds more analog...; - )
Your test has no practical value at all...

I know my Mac Pro 5,1 doesn't have AVX but I thought I'd run the installer just for the hell of it. The word "currently" is interesting...

but I'm not getting my hopes up :hihi:

Actually I've been told there was a renaming spree for a bunch of presets close to release. So some patches from that Sonicstate video definitely are there, but under a different name.

Only the highest quality patches were selected for the release, and it seems there will be continuous updates to the factory preset library as we go along - which is pretty cool.
