That said, my tech picked up the Skylark CountryWood today and immediately identified a couple of issues after just a quick visual examination without my needing to point them out. I suppose to the trained eye these things are easy to see, but I rely on just how it plays.

Within the first few seconds he'd commented on how the nut slots were a tad high which has a detrimental affect on the action overall, but no biggie to put right. The neck relief needs sorting out, which I'd assumed to be the case but had left alone and a couple of high frets need levelling before a final fret dress to get the best possible action for me, ie as low as humanly possible.

The only thing we disagreed on was the string guage, he reckoned they were most likely 9's while I was convinced they were 10's, either way we agreed that 11's or perhaps even 12's are best on this type of guitar. I supplied a set of 10's and 11's and left it up to him to fit the most suitable. I should hopefully have it back some time next week, tho' I'm in no rush and told him to take as much time as needed to do the job.
I got it back yesterday and 'tis very nice indeed now :D barring a issue with the trem unit.

Seemingly it had a few loose frets that needed to be reglued before a fret dress and the action is now excellent, not the lowest of my guitars but a damn sight better than before. It's been restrung with 11's which has made a world of difference to the sound and even tho' the rest of my guitars have 10's, I'll probably keep to 11's on this. The stock pups are great and will almost certainly be kept and I can't recall the last guitar of mine this happened to.

Onto the trem unit, it's a Bigsby-style, but is pretty stiff in use and seems to grate a bit and doesn't fully return at times when used. Dive bombing is pretty much out of the question atm, but I expect prolonged use will loosen it up sufficiently to be problem free eventually, tho' it's not going to get that off me tbh. My tech suspects it's a faulty unit so I've mailed Steve at Skylark to let him know and we'll see what he suggests. A replacement will be simple enough to fit myself.

I find it amusing that a cigar box guitar would be used at GC. I love the sound of them and often think of adding one to my collection.

It seems to have eased somewhat after a bit of use, tho' is still not quite right.

Looks beautiful, but it's made in korea (the point being "prestige" is mostly japam (as Dean would say)

Starting to think about a second electric guitar in the not too distant future. Looking at my music store's website. Soooo many options, because for a second guitar I can really just get whatever takes my fancy the most (within budget of course, but stylistically). I think I like basically any genre that has a guitar in it. And they have a lot of really nice guitars.

Part of me wants something slightly ridiculous but is fun/whilst still being a great guitar. And looks like a spaceship.

Weird! It's beautiful but isn't a Korean Prestige kind of missing the point?

Yep. Still, if it was a hardtail I'd be really interested.

Whenever I sell a guitar remorse sets in. Even though a great number of my guitars sit and collect dust.

So they had one of these at a local GC

It's always IMPOSSIBLE to tell what a guitar sounds like in a music store imho and of course it needed TLC (which I can provide, especially on ibbys) but......

$2000 USD!!!!!!????????? :o

frack me! Yeah, I can swing it, but $2000 USD!!!!!!?????????

Sorry for going all apeshit with the posting, but I picked up an EMG 60 at a local store called Skips for about 95 bucks

I really HATE the 81 I have in the neck right now so hoping  it just gives me a bit more clarity (without being all thin and weird like the 81 is)

Anyways, that's what I spent the money on from a couple of minor software sales I made recently so no loss if it doesn't completely satisfy me.......but I think I'll like it more.

EDIT! :o
