Hi. It's been very interesting to read throught this 18 pages

I've got a simple but hot question:

Would you sell an Eventide Eclipse to buy a Hardware VST Host, like Receptor?

Why could someone even think about getting rid of the amazing Eclipse? :o Ok, here are the antecedents:

I'm a guitarist currently playing with this gear:
- Boss GT-Pro.
- Eventide Eclipse.
- Axon AX100 Mk-II Midi converter.
- Clavia Nord Modular G2 Engine Synth.
- Roland VG8
and... yes, a guitar

The idea is to sell the Clavia and the eventide, and use the money to fill up the 2U rackspace with a Receptor. I would give 2 functions to the Receptor:

1.- Synth and rarities (Atmosphere, Kantos, Reaktor,Cube, Tassman...)
2.- Guitar FX. I will still keep the Boss GT-Pro for amp/speaker simulations (Guitar Rig, Warp and Amplitube-2 can not beat the simulations of the Gt-Pro yet), and the VST for the FX.

I own VST synths that I like more than the Clavia Nord Modular G2 (for what I'm doing with it, mostly pads; I'm not saying that the Clavia is a bad instrument at all) but I don't know much about VST FX, so I can't compare with the Eventide Eclipse. What VST Plugin do you reccomend to start my research to find a competitor for the Eclipse? Magic reverbs, magic delays & magic pitch shifting.

Cheers, :)

@chankro: there is a kvr-user called loophead. who he is:
'As the former main algorithm, preset and in several cases - product designer for Eventide Inc. from the 4000 series through the 7000 series Orville and Eclipse'

maybe you could write him a pm and ask for his opinion.

Best vst reverbs i heard and own are Classik Studio Reverb, Wizooverb 2, dreamverb and plate 140 (uad-1), and masterverb 5. These are all top notch.

As for delays i like the one in voxengo's analog flux, others have spoken highly about the roland RE-201 Space echo delay (uad-1), i have a freeware delay "more feedback machine" wich is good.Psp audioware has delays that people like you may want to check out.

As for pitchshifters i can't help you much. i only have the ones that come with my host programs.

Thanks defjamm & sounddesigner :tu:

Just thinking:

Pros:
- Atmosphere and other plugins had factory patches that give me instant satiscfaction. The Clavia is very powerful, but ain't got time to program a synth.
- There're very wired sounds when pluging the guitar to Antares Kantos.
- The way to organize the signal path and the patches inside the host (now I'm mixing the signals in a Roland KC-350 keyboard amp that I also use for monitoring and sending the mixed stereo signal direct to PA).
- With the money I can get from selling the Eclipse + the Clavia I can buy the Host and there's still money left for plugins.

Cons:
- I don't like Receptor because it only has one stereo input and I would like to process the signals from the Gt-Pro and from the VG-8.
- I'm afraid someday I'll miss the Eclipse.
