i just wrote about my personal experience as i use the synth longer than the users of the demo version. Everybody is free to have his own opinion about the GUI.

I wanted to mention that having a different colour than usual ones (e.g. grey, black) is refreshing.

I also mentioned that a synths GUI is a matter of taste and that that i hope there will be a third GUI to please everybody.

Ingo
Yeah Ingo I like the Orange GUI too. For me Oxium is now the Orange synth :)

And we're considering a last third GUI, with very neutral colors. We thought of Iced white, but maybe people would prefer a standard neutral grey.

Problem is that there is already a grey one. :ud: So we might consider adding an option to change the buttons instead. Maybe this will make everybody 'more or less" happy, but eventually the best solution ?

Tried the demo, the orange blades and alternating black/white everywhere
ruin comfortable precise grabbing and positioning.
Deal breaker, unless fixed. :(
Looking forward to the revisions. 8)

I guess you downloaded the full version and not the demo version.

I think white sounds good but not a glaring white, maybe more ivory?

It's not the buttons that are the problem. Just make a nice neutral grey version of the current orange skin. The current grey skin is too grungy and still has searing red elements (look at the grid).........

But anyway I'm really trying to love this synth but with so many others in my arsenal it's kind of hard to find a place for it to fit. I'll wait for the full demo to make up my mind.

i'd be surprised if there's anyone that would prefer the existing grey skin to a neutral grey (like the one shown here previously). please just ditch the "radioactive" skin and make everyone happy. sorry that you spent money on a horrible skin, just blame the guy that came up with it.

fwiw, i don't really mind the orange skin.

Hmmm I dont understand what blades you refer to. Also black and white are toggles, so you just have to click on them, not grab them.

With this representation I can understand the whole oscillator block, all relationships between the two oscillators, octaves, sync, waveforms selected, mixer positions, etc with a simple glance.

Same for the whole LFO bock, or filters etc etc.

If you care to elaborate .........

a couple odd things i've noticed:

the "ring" around the Pan knob is bi-directional, showing just a mark when centered. moving it left or right, the white bar shows where you are from center. nice. however, the pop-up "Balance" display goes from 0-100. shouldn't it read "Center" when there is no pan (instead of 50), and some thing like "R xx" when turned to the right? having 0-100 on a Pan control doesn't make much sense.

opposite for the Filter KEYB and ENV Amounts (and others), the white of the ring goes from 0-100, while the display shows zero at center and pos/neg values to the left or right of center. this doesn't make sense, seeing as you have it correct on the Pan knob. there's a number of other controls like this that seem like they're the opposite of how they should work. the Filter ENV stuck out to me first, it took me a second to realize that it was bi-directional.

Knobs that indicate position would help but the current grey UI still isn't very good IMO. It has random shades and distressed textures that don't look very professional. I think a good UI designer could have given you a dozen better options.

As I mentioned before, for clarity I like Z3TA the best:

But Z3TA is a little bland with so much grey. So I would change the color palette to be more like this featuring a lot of blue:

Just to show that I don't hate orange and in fact am quite fond of it here is a screenshot of Alchemy using a modified skin by the incredibly talented Limeflavour and the XTRO skin for Orion by the equally talented Bones....this is my default setup.

But notice that while there is quite a lot of it the orange is more subdued and rather than overwhelming the eye actually serves to make all the elements and digits stand out making them easier to read at a glance. I can use this version of orange/grey all day long..

Poor old George got raked over the coals, because light gray was too bright for the
peanut gallery testing the Corona demo :-o

You have 9 graphic elements circling the osc knobs, surrounding the area
you want to grab, looks like a dart board. The eye tends to process
all black Vs white, so all the elements and numbers call out, when you just
want to click on the edge of a knob, and knudge it. Tiring,
then frustrating, for more than casual use. Switching to the gray gui reduces overall contrast, but adds three more orange elements (blades for lack of a term) to the center of the knobs, more visual diversion. Look at the gui knobs in the z3ta pic posted above, very little eye clutter.

I realize the diverse functionality must be accessed somewhere,
but I would suggest the option of hiding/revealing the bunch of
those elements with a click, or a least not using maximum black/white on them.

And thanks for the professional reply to my assertion 8)

IMO a blue skin would be a good idea for a third one besides orange and grey.
I also like the blue colour shown in the example above.

Another "unusual" colour i had in mind was green... :)

the zeta and valhalla are both awful skins :?

the orange skin is functional, just needs some tweaks

diff colour/shade, some labels need to be clearer, small stuff that any GUI artist worth his salt can do in a very short time...
