No, I was not being ironic (and neither was he). He openly acknowledges the G.A.S. that has compelled him to collect enough gear to fill a small warehouse. But recently, it seems that he has decided to quit buying new synths. The quote I posted was pulled out of his latest video demo ().ZenPunkHippy wrote:After checking out WC Olo Garbs website and also the gear list page, I really can't tell if you're joking by posting this little bit of wisdom :-/SonicDimension wrote:f**k consumerism.
Also, remember the wise words of synth god WC Olo Garb:
"You can never get enough of what you don't need to make you happy."
He talks about "cheesy sounds' made by synths being disappointing. I listened to his music on Youtube. I read about cheese. Is he taking the piss?
Maybe I'm missing some irony here?
To those who are not familiar with WC Olo Garb/Jexus, I definitely recommend you check out some of his . The guy is brilliant, but some people may be turned off by his surreal/experimental/arty style.

Thanks for the info. I figured he must have a huge collection of gear, that kind of wisdom doesn't usually come from someone just starting out on the path of GAS.

... and of course, this being the GAS thread, you had to link to a video of the one synth I'm trying not to buySonicDimension wrote:The quote I posted was pulled out of his latest video demo ... the DSI MEK one

I don't think a purchase is worth it unless it can help you do something quicker, or better... But it is so easy to provide great arguments in favor of meeting that criteria for so many different new shiny things!

Dave Ramsey (IIRC) said (paraphrasing) "It isn't as if Christmas sneaks up on you.. it doesn't change date every year."michael2 wrote:suppose it's my own fault: I should just start saving up for the holidays in january.

I think saving throughout the year makes sense.. sadly.. most people don't treat the money they have with much care. Saving makes sense, paying interest to someone else stinks.
I mean look at us in this thread.. we're joking about having an impulsive addiction with buying. As if it is something humorous about throwing all money away on non-essentials (food, medicine, shelter, electricity/gas) and not saving for our futures. Rough times when you are old and either having to live off of the government or work your old bones past retirement age because you didn't plan ahead when times were good. All to get a little extra instant, fleeting gratification.
I get the feeling there is a sizable chunk of the country (USA) that lives paycheck to paycheck in good health and still throw money at toys (on credit no less).. That has to be stressful. And unnecessary added stress at that.

I'm sure someone has a line of embroidered computer monitor "cozies", that would fit the bill.

So, to recap: toys, and enough caffeine to stay awake long enough to use them to the point of exhaustion. [repeat habitually]

I cannot PASS on them! 99 bucks and I own so many of what they cover. I forget shit pretty easily so it's nice to have the reference for the 600 million things I own

Unloading gear you aren't effectively using doesn't help when you're faced with abusive buyers. I thought I was doing the right thing. Then my Fireworx died and the eBay buyer from hell struck (& I already need to repair my oven so I can cook food in it, and now my humidifier on my furnace). I'm back to wishing I could just give up on this stuff entirely but not being able to. Where would I unload my gear anyway? I probably should have tried to sell through kvr instead of eBay. So many hard lessons to learn, so little life left.
Acquisition isn't always the worst of the problem.

I read an ebay story a while back about a synth seller that had to take back what he sold to a buyer because the synth didn't work.
Turns out the buyer had replaced the seller's working parts with his junk parts; then forced the seller to refund the money, and take the synth back.
I don't do ebay anymore; would MUCH rather buy/sell here especially with people like Meffy monitoring...
